Book: Evidence of Angels
By: Suza Scalora with Francesca Lia Block
Pages: 64
Format: Hardcover
Publisher: HarperCollins
My summary: Evidence of Angels is a remarkably stunning collection of photographs accompanied by a brief story about the author's journey with angels. After the loss of a loved one the author plunges in to a deep depression. Until one day she hears a voice that compels her to open her eyes and pick up her camera. The voice said:
"Stand Up. Everything in your life has meaning. Your journey is to find it."
From that moment on she begins to see and experience angels. This lovely collection represents her journey and the types of angels she has encountered and witnessed along the way.
My say: Beautiful. Gorgeous. Buy it. Buy it for that relative you can not decide what to get for Christmas. But I warn you the images are so ethereal and vibrant you may decide to make it a permanent fixture on your coffee table.
My rating: 5 stars; I really liked the story and the letters (names and details from the actual testimonials were changed for confidentiality reasons). But what I really loved was the pictures/representations of the angels Suza has met.
My favorite part: One image looks like a typical day in a New York City park. A couple is walking by, the sun is shining, and the fountains are on. A little boy (about 2-3 years old) is looking up. When you look closer it appears the passerby has overlooked what has caught the child's attention. What could easily be seen as a slant of light is in fact an angel. The caption reads:
"We are with you."
Noteworthy: When previously asked what she hopes readers will take away from this book Suza answered: "The messages I would like Evidence of Angels to impart to readers is: you are never alone and guidance is available if you ask. It may come in ways you don't expect, but if you keep your heart and mind open you will see signs everywhere. And nothing ever truly dies: all energy is merely transformed. So, when a loved one passes on they are still with you, although their form no longer exists. Our soul is eternal."
My final say: I would love to pick Suza's brain one day over a couple cups of coffee.

Thank you so much Suza for making this review possible.

I saw another review of this over at My Fluttering Heart. It sounds like an amazing book! I may have to go check it out at the bookstore now. Lovely review! :)

ReplyDeleteI remember paging through this one up at a bookstore recently! (I'm pretty sure it's the one.) The images are incredible-- each making you feel so... so.. so safe. Thanks for reminding me about it. I'm going to put it on my list!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I love your Christmas cookie blog trim!
I love picture books.
ReplyDeleteThanks ladies!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sparkle. Christmas cookies are one of my favorite parts of the season.
I love books like these. The illustrations and pictures sound beautiful from your description. Thanks for bringing the book to my attention, Juju.
ReplyDeleteThe illustrations are wonderful! I love this kind of stuff x)
ReplyDeleteWhat caught my eye about this book was that I saw Francesca's name alongside Suza's. Francesca Lia Block is one of my favorite authors! Have you ever read her Weetzie Bat series? :D
Hey Pirate! :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read that series. Should I? :)
Great review! I'd probably buy it for the artwork alone and end up framing some the the pics. This is a fabulous idea as a Xmas gift. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGreat review! I'm definitely picking this up. I already know a few people who would love this as a Christmas gift. Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteWait a minute. I've been under a mountian of entries for a few days, and didn't get out into the blogosphere much but... did you change your design again? Wow, it looks great, but yours always do.
ReplyDeleteNice!
oh, this looks great! I'm going to have to check it out when I'm at the bookstore :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Alyssa. I changed it yesterday. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks juju for your sweet note. I love it whenever you visit.
ReplyDeleteI thought this was going to be sort of a non-fiction exploration of the evidence of angels. More like an investigation in to aliens or UFOs. I'm really surprised it reads like a story. I would probably love it...still not 100% convinced. I'm not really into illustrated books. I'll have to think about it but THANKS for opening my mind!
ReplyDeleteWow, sounds really inspirational. I love pictures that have a subtle meaning, like how you can faintly see the angel, and how something mudane can seem special. Thanks for the awesome review! :)
ReplyDeleteOoh... great review! I know someone who would love this. Of course, I'll have to grab one for myself, too. ;)
ReplyDeleteWow, this is amazing! I love angels and I definitely believe in them as I have encountered a miracle before thanks to my guardian angel! This is a great review :)
ReplyDeleteI've seen this book pop up in a few different places, and everyone seems to love it! I'll definitely have to check it out, and I can think of a few people it would be a great gift for.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving!
