eBook: Spinning The Baiji
Authoress: Nancy A. Lindley-Gauthier
Length: 25 pages
Publisher: The Wild Rose Press
Genre: Young Adult | Magical Realism
Current cost: $2.00
My mini review: This is a tender feast for the senses that transports the reader to the banks of the Yangtze.
With a gentle old world feel the magic and myth intertwine as Lin struggles with unrequited love, her duties and destiny, and the death of the old ways.
Plot: Otherworldly
Story: Magical
Writing: Vivid
Characters: Dutiful
My rating: 5 stars; I loved this enchanting tale.
My recommendation: Read this when you're in the mood for something short but beautiful.
Kiddie-o-meter: This story contains no sex, drugs, or foul language. There is nudity but in more of a beautiful innocent way where a body is admired from afar.
Adult-o-meter: Adults will love the writing style; it is both thoughtful and descriptive.
Quotables:
"The true cost of conveniences is in what is lost."
"Lin thought, not for the first time, that there were indeed two worlds, and sometimes, they clashed over kitchen tables."
"The terrible taming of this world is wider than one river, further than the reach of one shore."
Final say: The cover does not do this story justice. I would have loved to see a young woman on the beach watching the porpoise swim in the horizon.

OH wow - this sounds amazingly wonderful! I've just added it to my tbr list. I can't believe I'd never heard of it when it seems like a book that is SO me. Thanks for the review!
Sounds good but I wouldn't pick it up in a bookstore because of the cover. Love the review!
I really don't like the cover of this. Not sure this ne is for me but interesting to hear about a book that is different from the current trends :-)
Hey never heard of this book before. If you haven't reviewed it, It wouldn't even register in my radar! Thanks sharing your review Juju!!
I love how you do these unknown reviews alongside more popular ones. This does sound good! Is it only available as an ebook?
Thanks :)
And to answer your question: yes Heather it's only available as an eBook right now. But it's totally short enough to purchase for $2.00 and print out :D
You've been reviewing some good books lately! My Wishlist is getting full. :)
This is a great example of why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. I would never pick up this book based on the cover alone... but you've made it sound quite intriguing!
Wow, amazing quotes! This seems like a must-read to me ;) It also sounds very interesting! I like the concept.
This is my first visit to your blog! I love your reviewing style!
it sounds really interesting, but it's so hard for me to read ebooks! Maybe it's all in my head haha
Ohh, very deep sounding quotes! And, hm, the cover looks a bit young and girlish, but you make it sound like a good read. You always manage to pick books I haven't heard of before! Thanks for the review. :)
You always post about the neatest books. I never would've heard of them otherwise. Thanks for another great find :)
Haven't heard of this one. Sounds wonderful! I like your idea for the cover much better!
I echo the post of La Coccinelle - too bad it's only in ebook format so far. It would make the perfect gift for my niece - sounds wonderful! :)
The cover does look a little childish - for something that you have described as so pretty. Great review, sounds wonderful. - Parajunkee
Ooh, this sounds interesting. Don't know about the cover, though. But I'd still read it.
Hmmm...We have dolphins all over the coast here. Plus manatees. You can visit if you'd like to be the girl watching the dolphins. This book seems awesome
