Powers Contest

Book: Powers
Publisher: B&H Books
Pages: 400
Genre: Adult Fiction | Conspiracy | Christian Suspense | Thriller | Supernatural

What they say: "Powers, the follow-up to John Olson’s Shade, introduces a sheltered Gypsy girl named Mariutza. Her grandfather utters a mysterious last request before dying in her arms after being shot by ten cloaked men.

Those same men die before her eyes, but strange powers continue to pursue Mari through the swamps of southern Louisiana where she has always hidden from “the Badness.”

The whole world seems to join in the chase—helicopters, soldiers, government agents, and the police are all trying to kill her. Mari’s only hope of survival is to find Jaazaniah the Prophet, the mythical hero of her grandfather’s bedtime stories. But she has never been outside the swamp or known other humans besides her grandfather and one teacher. How can this lone girl survive the bewildering world of men long enough to find a prophet who might not even exist?"

My summary & say: Occasionally, I come across a book I recognize as good but can not for the life of me relish, enjoy, or complete. This is how I feel about Powers. The writer does an excellent job of building suspense and intrigue however I could not get past the erratic turbulent style in which the story unfolds.

My stars: 2 out of 5; It was not my cup of tea but the story does hold tons of potential

Because I am a firm believer that book love is in the eye of the beholder please don't be afraid to check out Powers from your local library OR enter to win my gently used early review copy!

How ironic....I am just about to begin this book with my own early review copy....I shall reserve my "judgement" until I've completed reading it through. (Love that you're sharing it with others though! One's person "pass-on" can be another persons treasure!)

Has Tales of Whimsy changed again? Or am I slightly delusional today? Either way, I kinda like it. Very Wonderlandesque.
