Sushi for One | Mini Book Review

Series: The Sushi Series Book 1
Authoress: Camy Tang
Publisher: Zondervan
Genre: Christian Chick Lit
Goodreads: Sushi for One
Formats: Kindle, Paperback, Audible

Tagline: "Sometimes romance needs a kick of wasabi"

My summary: Poor Lex has just months to find Mr. Right (or Mr. Right now) or her meddling grandmother is going to pull the funding on Lex's young volleyball team. Can Lex hold it all together, overcome her past, and find a good guy?

My say: Blogging my book reviews has taught me I am a character fanatic. My book love is directly tied to my ability to connect with the characters. I could not connect with sports enthusiast Lex Sakai. However I did love her stoic gentle love interest Aiden Young. My favorite sections in this book where when we briefly get to see things from Aiden's perspective. Some women write men and it does not seem believable. But Aiden's inner voice and urge to protect Lex felt earnest, natural, and true. I found my self eagerly expecting his take.

My star rating: 3 stars

My slices:
  • I appreciated Lex's struggle between her Christian heart and her mainly Buddhist family.
  • Make sure to check out the glossary of terms in the back!
My cover thoughts: SO cute and it fits Lex perfectly.

My meter readings:
  • Kiddie-o-meter: While there is no foul language or sex, Lex does struggle with the after effects of a violent crime she survived through many years before. Making this best suited for older teens and adults.
  • Adult-o-meter: Christian Fiction fans that appreciate real life pains and struggles in their stories will appreciate sassy Lex.
My final say: Camy if you are reading this, you are so good at the male perspective. I hope you one day write a novel that showcases more of that. Maybe one that alternates from chapter-to-chapter from the woman to the man.

Love the mini review! The book sounds like a good book and I kind of like to read about the struggle she has between the two religions. Thanks for the great review.

I love male leads. I'm trying to write a male lead in my book and I almost find it easier than my female protag. I like the name of this book. Thanks for the review.

Sounds really interesting! I tend not to specifically seek out Christian fiction (although, my entire family loves it), but you always make them sound so good! I may have to pick this one up.

Thanks for the review, Juju! You might like Trish in Only Uni better than Lex--most of my readers seemed to like her/relate to her better.

I just saw your mini review for this so I had to see what you thought. I loved this series, particularly book two, Only Uni. It was nice to see Asians represented in Christian fiction. There isn't enough of that. I didn't relate to Lex as well either (I am terrible at sports) but I did get the whole struggle she had with her traditional family.

Did you read the rest of the series?

Christina: I haven't. But you have me thinking I should. I remember, Camy told me I would relate better to book 2. You're right - it was really nice to read about a Christian Asians. That was my first time.

Cherry: Its cool :)

Cleverly: It does, doesn't it? ;)
