Under the recommendation of the lovely Ruth (from Booktalk & More) I just finished the SyFy mini-series Alice. Alice is a wild modernized hodge-podge of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass. It starts with a kick, hits a bit of a lull in the center, and then ends with a bang. The best part of the bang? The super cute Hatter played by Andrew-Lee Potts.
My final say: I loved it. Kathy Bates plays the Queen of Hearts and the costumes were fantastic. Much better than the Tin Man. Especially the love bit at the end. I had to watch it like four times.
Have you seen Alice?
My British darlings, are you familiar with Andrew's show Primeval? Is it worth a watch?

loved this version of Alice and swoon over hatter. I loved that she was strong and independent and her fiance was dork.
ReplyDeleteKathy Bates was awesome and did you see Gaida from Battlestar?? It wasn't as good as Tin- which you are right.
Nope need to watch Primevil. There I wrote a novel of post this time. I actally saved a pic from this show on my twitter page. LOL
Julie: Yah another Hatter swooner ;) Whoot!
ReplyDeleteI'm off to make the Hatter my wallpaper
Jack is definitely a ninny.
So, SO happy you loved Alice! The best part of the show is indeed Andrew Lee Potts' fabulous Hatter...and every time I watch it I want to repeat the last five minutes MULTIPLE times. So wonderfully sweet.
ReplyDeleteI am British in spirit so I'll answer your Primeval question. ;) I am a HUGE fan of that show!!! That is actually where I became a fan of ALP and really became excited about his involvement in the Alice miniseries. I cannot WAIT for the next run of Primeval episodes to air...last I heard, they are due sometime in 2011 (the show was literally saved from extinction...if you search the "Primeval" label on my blog the news articles will come up, followed by my blow-by-blow reviews of series 3...so beware of spoilers!). ;)
Cool, I've never heard of this! Gotta check it out, now.
ReplyDeleteRuth: Oh good! *wink wink* I'm not alone. I can not stop watching the ending :) *sigh* SO good.
ReplyDeleteSo Primeval is good? Sweet! :D I must try it. How do you watch it? Online or through Netflix?
Emidy: Ooo I hope you do :)
Well, I own the Primeval DVDs. :) I originally watched the series when BBC America 1st broadcast each season. So Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 of the DVDs are available through Netflix. Oh, and just so you know, series 2 and 3 are packaged together in Vol. 2 of the DVD (that can get a little confusing). You can also watch most of the episodes here (http://www.casttv.com/shows/primeval).
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen this yet, but I want to! Are they replaying it or did you watch the dvd?
ReplyDeleteHaven’t watched it but it is on the DVR. I’ll have to check it out soon.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched Alice but now that I know it's OK, I'll have to give it a try. :)
ReplyDeleteI watched the first bit a while ago and really liked it. I need to get my hands on it very soon. Thanks for the post, since it reminded me.
ReplyDeleteLoved Alice, especially Andrew Lee Potts! I've been watching reruns of Primeval on BBC America and really like it. I wanted to watch Primeval because of Andrew, but then started watching Doctor Who and realized that I really like that British sense of humor. :)
ReplyDeleteOh! I'm so glad you posted about this! I saw a preview way back when it initially came out and completely forgot, but wanted to see it. Now, I'm definitely going to have to see about getting it. It just looked so good! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSince so far in the east asia then sadly i don't know about this.but great though, now i know something new to watch online soon.i hope ;p
ReplyDeleteMy sons and I LOVE Primeval. It's been on BBC America. Andrew is darling in it. The last series (#3) ended horribly and we had heard that it was all done, but then I heard that it got renewed. I am dying to see how they write their way out of the way it ended!
ReplyDeleteI don't watch telly (TV) so I was wondering if Alice is going to be available in DVD (??)...
ReplyDeleteCherry: I watched it on DVD :)
ReplyDeleteJana: Ooo coool. I don't have cable (so I will watch it on Netflix) but I'm glad to hear another glowing recommendation :) and thrilled to know they play it here as well.
Darlyn: If you get to watch it let me know what you think ;)
1stdaughter: COol cool! I can't wait to see what you think.
Erin: Oh good we have the same motivation. I want to see it because of Andrew too ;) *le sigh*
Kinsey: No prob :)
Jessica: I hope you like it. This Alice is pretty butt kicking. :)
Christie: Cool. I hope you dig it ;)
Carrie: It is on DVD. I got mine through Netflix. :)
Ruth: You rock! Thanks for the link :) I found they have every episode of Primeval available for instant watch on Netflix. Whoot! You own the seasons? Ooooo it must be good then.
@Juju - Aww, thanks. :) I should've guessed Netflix would have the eps on instant watch...but I don't have a subscription. And yes...the seasons are fantastic...of course any British show that I absolutely love usually ends up getting purchased and added to my DVD shelves. :)
ReplyDeleteRuth: I'd never heard of that web site. I marked the site for future investigations ;) Do you collect allot of DVDs or do you simply love British shows?
ReplyDelete@Juju - My friend Lori found the Cast TV website...very cool, isn't it? And in answer to your question...yes to both. I am something of a DVD junkie...my collection is rather out of control. ;) And my main love is British shows, so that makes up a large part of my DVD collection (the other part being a lot of classic films).
ReplyDeleteRuth: I love classics! So what other British shows do you adore? What started you?
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely have to watch this one! I was disappointed with the movie version, but the Hatter in this one sounds dreamy :)
ReplyDeleteI really want to watch this and had recorded it then broke my DVR and lost it all. One day though...
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch this one becuase I didn't want to be disappointed. SyFy movies can be hit or miss.
ReplyDeleteI used to watch Primeval but became bored, which is odd, because I love BBC America. I sometimes think I should be living across the pond. Being Human, Survivors, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Gavin and Stacy.....
@Juju - My love affair with British shows probably started with the Colin Firth/Jennifer Ehle Pride and Prejudice. I love everything from the TV shows (Robin Hood, Primeval, Doctor Who) to the miniseries (North & South, Emma, Cranford) to the films (Dear Frankie, The Young Victoria) - just to name a few.
ReplyDeleteMeredith: He totally is :)
ReplyDeleteAndrea: Let me know when you do :)
Jenny: Agreed. I didn't like Tin Man but this one I loved.
I just added Being Human and Survivors to my Netflix list.
Ruth: Cool cool! I need to watch Robin Hood and Cranford. I adored Emma. I reallly liked Dear Frankie. (LOVE Gerard Butler) Young Victoria is on my TBW list :)
Good to know you enjoyed this! I actually didn't watch Alice because I wasn't a huge fan of Tin Man. I may have to give it a try now. I have to agree with Jenny and Ruth, I love BBC shows. I haven't seen Primeval, but I love Doctor Who, Torchwood, Merlin (my new favorite), and Being Human. Ooh, and of course Jekyll, the creepiest mini-series ever.
ReplyDeleteLizzy: I need to try Doctor Who. Merlin sounds goood. Jekyll? Tell me more :)
ReplyDeleteI ADORED SyFy's Alice!
ReplyDeleteSyFy's Alice is awesome!!! I fell in love with Andrew Lee Potts in Alice! So much so that I bought the first season of Primeval. Primeval season one and two are great in that witty one-liners, campy effects, and characters you adore type of way. The seasons are short, but lots of fun to watch. In my opinion, season 3 went completely downhill (seasons 2 and 3 are packaged together). Characters were written out and the storyline was terrible...and that's coming from a Primeval fan.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, back to Andrew as Hatter. There are some addictive Hatter fan videos on youtube if you search Alice Syfy.
I LOVED season 3! Of course when the show returns in 2011 if the sacrifices of season 3 aren't made worthwhile that could change my opinion...
ReplyDeleteSmashAttack: :D
ReplyDeleteMichelle: Thanks for the tips. I can't wait to try it. You are SO right about the YouTube fan videos. I popped over and fell in love again ;)
Ruth: Ooooo good to know :)
