Authoress: Aprilynne Pike
Publisher: HarperTeen
Pages: 368 pages (Hardcover)
Genre: Young Adult | Fantasy
My summary: Laurel is back and this time she is heading to fairy school to learn some tricks on how to protect her friends and family. But will she be able to resist her feelings for Tamani?
My say:
While Wings dazzled me, Spells never quite took flight. If Wings was the mystery, Spells is the answers.Sure your questions get filled.Sure you finally get some time with her hot ex-boyfriend Tamani. But overall it lacked the intrigue of Wings.
My verdict: I still have hope for book three and if you're a fan of Wings you really should read it. You get to see behind fairy veil and Aprilynne does a great job of weaving human history with fairy history.
My star rating: 3 out of 5 stars
My final say: Miss Thang better come to her senses and pick Tamani. He is totally made for her and won me over. David, who?

great review as always :)
ReplyDeleteIt's so funny, because I totally want Miss Thang(hee hee) to choose David and I liked this one more than Wings.
ReplyDeleteI love the short reviews! Not all the time, but it's so fun to have a "to-the-point" review. Great job! Again, another series I have yet to pick up, it just never grabbed me even though I really liked the covers.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review! I enjoyed Wings, but still haven't read this one and the biggest reason why I'll read it is Tamani :)
ReplyDeletehehe, straigh to the point! i need to learn from you :P
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Wings yet but I plan on it before too much longer. I remember hearing some kind of movie rumor not too long ago...
ReplyDeleteHmm..I have heard great things about this. That's to bad. Well atleast it wasn't a total waste. As always lovely HONEST review.
ReplyDeleteMary: Really? I've always said book love is in the eye of the beholder ;)
ReplyDelete1stdaughter & Audrey: Thank you ;)
Aleksandra: Me too! I <3 Tamani.
Ladytink: Yah! I can't wait.
Cleverly: I can't wait to see what you think.
If I had to pick I'm so team David, the human best friend always seems to get the short end of the stick. I don't think I will pick up the sequel though, I wasn't won over with the first one.
ReplyDeletehahah. i love your mini review!
ReplyDeletei haven't read the books yet, but they are sitting on my tbr pile. i need to get to them soon.
Great mini review!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read these books yet, but from what I hear Spells isn't as good as Wings, like you said. I'd love to start this series, though!
Rebs: Normally I totally agree with you but in this case I really think it is Tamani that is getting the raw deal. Especially with what we learn in Spells. :)
ReplyDeleteToothy: Enjoy ;)
Emidy: I can't wait to see what you think ;)
Juju: That makes me want to read this one now lol
ReplyDeleteThis one is being published in Spain soon^^
ReplyDeleteI felt exactly the same way about this one.
ReplyDeleteI've heard similar things about this one. Still want to give it a try though. Great review :)
ReplyDeletei had to read wings...i wonder who Tamani is...
ReplyDeleteI started this one and couldn't finish. I might go back though. I understand where your coming from. I'm glad she picked Tamiami though!
ReplyDeleteRebs: Yah :) email me if you don't mind a little of the Tamani spoilers.
ReplyDeleteSilvia: Whoot!
Nely: ;)
Kim: I understand. It was a bit slow. As for Tamani, she hasn't picked him yet. *fingers crossed* I'm still hoping.
You always have the cutest reviews! How do you come up with all these awesome ideas?! Either way, keep it up!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what to think now. I didn't really like Wings, so if you loved it and liked Spells less, there's a chance I'll like Spells even less than you... maybe I'll just pass this one!
ReplyDeleteThis review made me kind of want to read Wings. Which is weird, because none of the reviews of Wings made me want to read Wings. . .hmmmm. . .
ReplyDeleteI have this on my iPod. I started it but haven’t had much time to actually listen. I also loved Wings and was hoping this would be at least as good. Sorry to hear it disappointed. Must agree about Tamani. I loved him in Wings.
ReplyDeleteYou weren’t picturing Miley Cyrus while you read? I’m afraid that is going to ruin this series for me ;)
I've noticed some second books tend to be buildup for the third book. The author finally has the freedom to make a bigger book (length-wise) and can write without as many editorial restrictions as she or he had with the first one.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't a huge fan of Wings so this one probably isn't for me. Thanks for the review!

Lisa: Yah, I've been noticing that too. ;)
ReplyDeleteChristie: LOL Luckily I read Wings before the Miley Cyrus rumors surfaced so that never affected my mental visual of the character ;) Thank goodness! I really picture her more like Emma Roberts.
Briz: Interesting :) I'm oddly proud of my self then ;)
Tipsy: Ahhhhh thanks doll ;)
Thanks for the review. I'm hoping to read Wings in the next week or two, so I didn't read your review too carefully...but I will once I finish Wings :-)
ReplyDeleteI still need to read Wings...I've been putting it off for quite some time. I think it was because there was a rumor that Miley Cyrus would play the main character in the movie. Now that the rumor has died down, I'll pick it up.
ReplyDeleteI still haven't read the first one...Was the first one better than Spells?
ReplyDeleteNice honest review! =)
I wish I can write oh-that-so-short review..Nice one Juju. I havent read any of the books but planning soon ;p
ReplyDeletecute review! i agree with Darlyn! great short review and what a wonderful ability to be able to get your point across in so few words!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the honest review! I'll keep it in mind if I pick this one up! :)
ReplyDeleteI was excited about Wings... the sequel is so so, e? Thanks for sharing your opinion Ju! I always value it :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review. I haven't read wings yet but it's on my list. Maybe I'll wait until the 3rd book is out.
ReplyDeletehaven't read this yet. but totally a wings and tamani fan. but the 3 stars, hmmmm.
ReplyDeleteCari: Good call :)
ReplyDeleteCherry: Ahh thanks darling! Enjoy Wings! :)
Stacy & Darlyn: Thanks sweet peas ;)
Lizzy: LOL Yah I'm not a fan of MC playing her either ;)
Alison: Good luck! I can't wait to hear what you think!
i like the mini review! i haven't read either of these yet, sounds like the first was a lot better though.
ReplyDeleteHi Jujubean :)
ReplyDeleteNely pretty much said the same thing about this book. Although she enjoyed the first book, the second failed to grab her.
I wish you a FANTASICAL weekend!!

PS: I'm still looking for your I LOVE MY HUBBY shirt. Last time I went to the store, they had a bunch that said I LOVE ME! LOL
Hmmm .. I still have Wings to read. But I'm disappointed that Spells doesn't quite match up.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really into fairies but the covers for this series are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThe idea of a mini review is so cool. You should start a mini review Monday meme or something where everyone can link up to your site and post their own mini reivews ;-)
XOXO~ Renee
Isa: You are so awesome! Thank you mama :) G.L.O. (Good. Looking. Out) ;)
ReplyDeleteRenee: Great idea! You're one smart cookie ;)
Nice mini review! To the point without being too spoilerish...even for someone like me that *ahem* hasn't read the first one. Yep, guilty as charged. Here's hoping book three has the outcome you wished for! ^_^
ReplyDeleteGood mini review...concise, neat, and to the point!
ReplyDeleteah, i havent read this yet. wings was a bit meh for me (perhaps too MG?) but the one reason i'm tempted to pick it up is for Tamani! He's HOT :)
ReplyDeletelove your review style
x
GMR: You really must change that ;)
ReplyDeleteJenny: Thanks sweetie :)
Nomes: Welcome welcome :) Three cheers for Tamani. I hope he kicks major butt in book 3 :)
