When it comes to books, I'm prudish and suffer from Casper Syndrome. Yes, I totally made that up the other day. What is Casper Syndrome, you ask? I tend to like my ghosts (and other paranormal beings) like Casper the Friendly Ghost; friendly, trying to do good, and basically just in need of friendship and/or love. Call me a goody-goody paranormal optimist if you will. *wink wink*
The good: There is no denying what a light easy read this one is.
The bad: The first three chapters were so drab, that I basically skimmed them.
The ugly: This story contains nudity, demons, mentions to sex and sexuality, and is peppered with curse words.
The tasty: Great characters, a wickedly delicious concept, and a cool unforseen plot twist ending, made it hard to put down.

So basically, this book affected me like Marilyn Manson's cover of the 80s tune Tainted Love; I didn't want to like it, I didn't buy it, but I couldn't help enjoying it.
Tagline: "When it comes to inheriting the throne, it's all in the blood."
Pages: 241 (Paperback)
Publisher: New American Library
Genre: YA Witches Vamps
My star rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Great, honest review! I'm not sure this one is for me, but it certainly sounds intriguing :)
ReplyDeleteSorry it wasn't as good as you'd hoped it to be, that happens sometimes :C Love the casper though!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute minireview :D
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, ghosts should be like Casper, as for other paranormal, still considering those
I love your minireviews :) I like the cover!
ReplyDeleteI like your mini-review style. While I'm intrigued and may pick this one up at some point, I think I'll slot it just a little lower. Sometimes I have trouble getting past loads of curse words. Some? okay, but my limit is on the lower side - just personal taste. Like the review. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWonderful review, Juju! I don't normally go for paranormal stuff, so I'll probably pass on this one. I'm glad you enjoyed it while it lasted, though!
ReplyDeletegreat review and love the cover-- have your read bad girls don't die..its a great ghost story and the cover is pretty cool.

ReplyDeleteI also like my ghost stories with Casper ghosts!
heh, that's totally how I felt about Marilyn Manson's cover of Tainted Love, too. Maybe I'll have to see what this book is all about.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I totally have Caspar syndrome! It's why I'm not a big fan of fairy books, I think. But this one looks awesome--I may have to check it out!
ReplyDeleteomg Casper is way to cute, lol, great review JuJu you do so good pulling us in.
ReplyDeletealways loved caspar!
ReplyDeletethanks for the honest review, juju!
ReplyDeleteI like this review, short and straight to the point though I still want to read this one for myself.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your honest review, Juju. This one does sound intriguing, but I think I'll wait a while before picking it up. =)
ReplyDeleteI loved the review! (I also agree with your ghost views!!)

ReplyDeleteThis post made me grin from ear to ear. Great review, it's already on my wish list.
ReplyDeleteI like my ghosts friendly too so I love the name Casper Syndrome lol. Scary ghosts are too difficult to fight and that freaks me out. I love this author's Garnet Lacey books so I'm looking forward to this one.
ReplyDeleteThen I should say that I have the Casper syndrome too! I like my ghosts nice and helpful! Btw, nice review format!
ReplyDeleteDespite the first 3 chap being not so entertaining it doesn't sound to bad.
ReplyDeleteShort, sweet, and too the point....great "mini-review", Juju! Not quite certain it's the one for me, but definitely can appreciated the unexpected love of a title that's a bit off the normal path choice....happy reading!
ReplyDelete"Casper syndrome" I love it! You crack me up! I think I'd probably fall into the same category, though a really well-written "bad" ghostie could be fantastic. This sounds like a guilty pleasure read actually. :o) Loved the review!
ReplyDeleteI've been seeing this book around the blogosphere and because I am on a book ban at the moment, I gotta let this one go. But you made that a bittersweet experience :)
