When I spotted this article at Book Love, I knew I had to share it with you!Highlights/Quotes: "The Harry Potter generation has grown up".
"A lot of adult literature is all art and no heart. But good Y.A. is like good television. There’s a freshness there; it’s engaging. Y.A. authors aren’t writing about middle-aged anomie or disappointed people."
As a 34-year-old book blogger addicted to YA, I say: Amen!

Isn't it interesting when you think that the generation that grew up reading the Potter books (and thus reading more books) are well past their teen years now? That means we can no longer keep saying that the HP books have made the kids read more. Took me this article to get that eye-opening moment.
ReplyDeleteAths: Ooooo soooo true! I hadn't considered that. It use to be HP book got kids reading. Now that is being said about Twilight.
ReplyDeleteI'd say that's what I've enjoyed about YA fiction and middle grade. Most authors write to tell a good story, adventurous, full of life. i like that. More so with middle grade now. YA, in my opinion, is getting a bit too dark. :(
ReplyDeleteSuch a good article. This is basically why I love YA.
ReplyDeletei remember seeing this article a couple of weeks ago. it's soo true!
ReplyDeleteAs a 24 year old adult...heck yeah! So true :)
ReplyDeletelove that quote.
ReplyDeleteand yeah, i'm proud of my adult-loving YA-crush. so much goodness in the YA scene, hey?
So true! Thanks for sharing, or I would have missed it! :D

ReplyDeleteThis was such a great article! It so perfectly describes my situation and the picture accompanying it is perfect. Thank goodness my kids love to read just as much as I do! :o)
ReplyDeleteOh totally agree...Im 31 now and LOVE YA more than Adult Lit....Maybe because I can read them faster or that they just have more entertaining plot lines, who knows..:D
ReplyDeleteThat's so fun: The Harry Potter generation has grown up! That's so true. Also the Pokemon generation. lol.
ReplyDeleteGreat post...and oh so true (on most levels)! Off to read some more YA goodness.... ^_^
ReplyDelete*happy sigh* Oh, YA, I really like you.
ReplyDeleteNina: OMG That's true! That was my sister's generation. Crazy! :)

Nomes: Amen gf! :) *high five*
Michelle: I can see what you mean :) Maybe the new angels trend will lighten things up :)
Great point! I am 30 and read more YA now that I did as a teen! :)
ReplyDeleteBook Love might be on to something there...
ReplyDeleteKelli: Amen! But don't you think the quality of YA has increased exponentially since we were teens? :)
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, which is why I don't read many contemporary or women's books. You know those ones I mean. I relate better to YA than women my age. What's up with that?
ReplyDeleteJenny Girl: LOL Right? Exactly my sentiment :) *high five*
ReplyDeleteSince started read YA a year ago I cannot get enough of it.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! YA is becoming my favorite genre! :)
