Musical Match: C'est Trop Beau

The book: My Life in France by Julia Child and Alex Prud'Homme
The song: "C'est Trop Beau" by Tino Rossi
The connection: I must confess, I can not seem to rush My Life in France. I am relaxing and relishing every moment of it. Almost as if, I have taken Julia's pace. It also has me thinking of French Kiss (1995) with Kevin Kline and Meg Ryan (one of my favorite movies and soundtracks). Which is what lead me to this song. It is so deliciously sweet and old fashioned. It seems to embody Julia's love for everything around her and fits the time period pretty closely. I believe it means "this is too beautiful" and was recorded in 1952.

  5. I've never read the book, but I can see how a french song can represent a book set in France. You commented on my blog and asked how Virals was; it's great so far, and thanks for stopping by!

  6. I want to read that book! Did you see the Julie & Julia movie? I liked it, but I didn't like the parts with the Julie lady who was blogging as much as the parts with Julia Child.

I see you got a new header, right? I love it! :D

  12. I know I've seen that movie...I've watched just about everything starring Meg Ryan (including Joe Versus the Volcano)...but for the life of me I can't remember what it was about. Maybe it's time for a rewatch.

The song is beautiful, and now after reading your words in this post and the last one, I'm thinking of picking up MY LIFE IN FRANCE sometime this year; something I never would have picked up before. 27. Love this! And yes...you got the translation right. ;o) My mother and sister are both fluent French speakers. And my entire family are huge Julia fans. She's just so wonderful, even with her blunt way of looking at things there's just something utterly charming about her. Maybe because she loves France so much? :o)

And yes, French Kiss is fabulous! Love that movie!

    2. LOL that is part of what I love about her. She's charming but straight forward and very matter of fact. I suffer from matter of fact directness myself in real life ;)

Maya: Agreed! She was my favorite part :) I tend to love French music too!

    Melissa: Thanks :)
