"And that insulting, chauvinistic order he'd give her to say on the school grounds? What was this, the nineteenth century? It crossed her mind that maybe Daniel had spoken to her like that centuries ago, but - like Jane Eyre and Elizabeth Bennet - Luce was certain no former self of hers would ever have been cool with that. And she certainly wasn't now." ~ Torment by Lauren Kate
I love this passage. It really sets the defiance that permeates this story.

Haha I love the mention of Jane Eyre and Elizabeth Bennet. Great teaser!
ReplyDeleteLove it when girl stands up for herself! Great teaser.
ReplyDeleteI've had Fallen on my TBR list forever. I really need to get to it! So many books...
ReplyDeleteGreat teaser!
I really enjoyed Fallen, I need to read it again! Great segment :) Mine is from The Daughter of Siena.
ReplyDeleteNew Follower here!
ReplyDeleteOMG, I could NOT STAND Daniel in this book! He was the biggest chauvinistic, bossy jerk ever! Haha-- well, I hope you are enjoying Torment. I have a a long-standing love-hate relationship with the Fallen series-- if you want, feel free to check out my reviews on them, but probably wait until you're done reading them since there are a few spoilers (difficult sometimes not to with a series!)
Enjoy the rest of Torment (Note: I thought Passion was better ;)

Oh feisty! Gotta love a girl who can stand on her own two feet. Love it!
ReplyDeleteAnd yay! You're back! Hope you both are getting settled in and things are going well. Missed you! :o)
Very interesting!! I read the first one and wow was he a chauvinist. Since there was a lot of backlash about that, i wonder if the author purposely made a big deal of her standing up to him in the second one. HMMMM maybe i should give the second one a try??
ReplyDeleteGO LUCE!!! Don't let him tell you what to do:) I'm liking the sound of Luce in this one, she wasn't quite as take-charge in Fallen, so I like that she's making progress!
ReplyDeleteHa! What a great way of saying f*ck off, you chauvinist pig!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great teaser!! I absolute love this cover! The book is on my wish list.

ReplyDeleteHow are you beautiful? I hope the move went well! Take care!!
ReplyDeleteWonder what ticked her off but go Luce!
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of that bumper sticker regarding women who make history but darn, I cannot think of it now. Basically, defiance, at times, is necessary, I believe.
