Review Worshipping: Matched

2¢ Worth: Matched is a quiet book. One that evolves mostly around a girl in a futuristic dystopian society who for all intents and purposes (as the cover alludes to) lives in a bubble. A bubble she has never questioned. But one small pinprick in that bubble leads the girl to question everything she has so easily accepted her whole life.

Why the pills? Why is their food and exercise controlled?
Why is technology kept to a minimum? Why must everyone die at 80?
Why are there only 100 poems? Why does no one create any more?

Slowly these questions ignite a quiet fire, a restless hunger, and an uncontrollable tremble between the girl and the boy who shouldn't be. With every inch of mounting tension, Matched crawled under my skin and left me breathless. I can not wait to know more. Hurry Crossed hurry! 5 stars

Wrinkles: Some say, the world building lacks in this story. I have faith that as Cassia strikes out on her own, we will learn more about life outside her bubble.

What's what: Matched sat on my TBR shelf for quite some time. Until the sweet and sassy Tipsy Reader perfectly matched Promises (by Nero) to Matched. The moment I watched this video, I dropped everything I was doing, snatched Matched off my shelf, and started reading. Want to see what sparked me? Head over to YouTube and watch Promises by Nero.

Thank you to A BookLover's Diary for making this review possible
and Tipsy Reader for showing me Promises on Musical Monday.

  1. This sounds intriguing. The dystopian fiction can often get a bit heavy for me (like A Handmaid's Tale) but this sounds quirkier and even fun :)

  2. Hmmm I only gave it 3 stars, I guess it just wasn't my thing. I actually felt it was a little slow.

  3. Mel: I didn't like Handmaid's Tale so I feel ya ;)

Walltowall: I remember seeing your review :) And I can totally see why you might think that. I think that's why I used words like quiet and restless. To emphasize the tension is there but it takes time :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  4. I did enjoy this enough to read the next book at some point, but I did feel it was a little ... incomplete and not quite worth the hype or the bajillion dollar advance.

  5. I wonder if Matched ended with HEA or cliffhanger...

  6. I want to read this one too. I keep waiting for the price to drop. As soon as it does I'll snatch it up.

  7. This one has been on my TBR shelf for a long time, too. Because there was so much good and bad buzz about the book when it came out I wanted to wait to form my own opinion. I'm glad to hear you liked it. I'm going to have to check out Promises for sure!

  8. I quite enjoyed this one, but hadn't felt the need to read #2 yet prob because I have so many books waiting for me! I think I gave it a higher star just because it hasn't really been a good fiction year for me.

Here is my review if you are interested:

  9. Just the video and completely agree! Consider that song downloaded :)

I liked this book, but I also wish more time was spent on describing that world. I also wasn't a huge fan of the pace of the book. It just wasn't for me. I was still interested enough on the story that I kept the next books in the series on my TBR list. I certainly hope it just gets better and better.

Glad you liked this one so much :)

  23. Very interesting review. And I'm wondering how the author pulls off an interesting story about a girl in a bubble. Seems very limited, but you seem to think she did a great job...so I'm taking your word for it. Glad you enjoyed.

  25. This was just OK for me. I will probably read the next one in the series though to see what happens next! Awesome video though! Thanks for sharing :)

  26. I think i enjoyed this one less because they kept comparing it to Hunger Games and other than being dystopian, it wasn't too similar, so I ended up being disappointed.

  27. i haven't picked up this book because of the mix reviews. maybe someday...

  28. Cool video! I can see why it inspired you - now I'm wishing I had the sequel. :)

  29. Isn't it funny how music can influence the way we feel about everything, even the books we pick up?

You know, watching that video actually has me second guessing my feelings about the book. I think if I'd seen the video before reading it I would have enjoyed it more. Maybe it's because I need the visuals, but didn't get it in the text. Either way, I think I may like Matched more now. Thank you! I'm definitely still looking forward to picking up Crossed soon, more so now that I've seen that. :o)

    Great find and great review!

  30. I really enjoyed this one too! Can't wait for Crossed! :D

I need to go watch the video which inspired you!

  33. I'm also looking forward to Crossed. I was bugged with a lot of the same questions. I have problems throwing away used coffee cans much less boil it down to 100 poems.

  39. Misty: *smile* I feel ya. Hype can be a downer.

Cherry: Well sort of. It has some resolution but the reader definitely has to read the next to see where the character goes from there. Good question!

Kaye: Right on :) I do that alllot myself.

    Julie: O do do :)

Christa: Thanks for the link doll. I'm off to check it out now :)
