Whimsy Update: Soon We Will Be Three

I have a confession to make...I've been keeping something from you ladies. Soon I will be sporting one of these. That's right, Mr. Whimsy and I are expecting a baby Whimsy this December.

The facts:
  • We didn't think we could have babies.
  • Therefore, she is our unexpected surprise and blessing.
  • We have no clue what to name her. Got any ideas?
  • Her room is nowhere near done BUT she does already have books.
The truth:
  • I have no idea how exactly this will effect Tales of Whimsy, but I have every intention of continuing to read, blog, and visit your blogs.
  • I am however pretty sure it will take me some time to get into the swing of things and find a new groove.
  • I have been changing the pace here at Tales of Whimsy so the transition will hopefully feel rather smooth.
So seriously, do you have any name ideas? Ideally the name will be lovely, unique, mean something cool, and sound good in English as well as Spanish.

  1. HOLY CRAP JUJU!!!!

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!! Baby Whimsy is very lucky--it's going to have a lovely house to come home to and very loving parents<333

I really like the name Celeste for a girl. It sounds good in english and spanish AND it's a very pretty name to boot ;)

Oh, don't worry about the blog! You've always managed to be a dedicated blogger (and an excellent commenter) in the past but life offline is more important. I hope you stick around though; I'd be sad to see you stop blogging.

Anyways! Again, congratulations!!!! THIS IS SO EXCITING :D

Hmm, name choices though...that's ALWAYS a toughie...especially when you consider there are books w/60,000+ in them...0_0 A few to throw in the mix...Christy...Arriana....Isabella....

  8. Congratulations! A baby is the most beautiful news you can get! Hope you're feeling well.
As for the name...when I thought I was expecting a girl, I wanted to name her Dorya, after a character from a book. I had a boy, but I still have a soft spot for that name.

  9. Ahhhhh! Congratulations! And December??! You sure have been holding out on us! ;)

I've been really into Irish names lately, like Niamh (pronounced Neev, means radiance, lustre, brightness) or Aoife (pronouced EE-fə, means beauty). Or, I would let you take Alita ;) It means little winged one.

  10. JUJU!!!!! Yippee! What a wonderful surprise and blessing!

The name "Milagra" means miracle, and you could call her Mila for short, which is an adorable name.

    Good luck with everything!

  11. How wonderful!!! Congratulations! You will be a wonderful mother! We can't wait to meet her!

My boys are 22, 21 & 18 but motherhood is still the best (& hardest) thing I've ever done. It's a huge change but you will adjust. Give yourself a break & rest whenever you can, accept help when it's offered, don't worry about the dirty dishes and enjoy it as much as possible! :) There are plenty of long nights but you will be shocked by how fast the time goes by. I can't believe we just sent our "baby" off to college and are expecting our first grandchild next month!!

  12. Congratulations!
As for names.. you kind of had me a Baby Whimsy. Maybe you can put Whimsy in her name somewhere. Lilianna Whimsy or something like that. Baby Whimsy will be my favourite though when you mention her on the blog. haha

    *hugs*

(I can't believe I got here early enough to have a comment still in the teens! =P)

  13. OMG Congrats and not going to give name ideas because I am sure that you think of something wonderful.

My oldest baby is middle school now and time does go fast.

  14. Congratulations! My mother was told she couldn't conceive, but here I am. Because of that, I'll offer my mother's name: Catherine. It's not an unusual name, but it isn't common these days.

Thanks for sharing your happy news.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm so freaking happy for you Juju! What a wonderful, unexpected surprise!

You are definitely going to need a classic baby name, something to make your timeless style. My pick would be "Grace." :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Well I say! That was a bomb!

Grace is classic. Bliss would be unique and hit the angle of blessing.

Gwen is also lovely and you can add on the classic ending. Gweneth.

  27. Congratulations! I love some of the names already mentioned. A couple of my favorites are Jenna and Bethany, but I don't know how well they do in Spanish.

  28. OH MY GOSH! OH MY GOSH! OH MY GOSH! OH MY GOSH!
Wow, I am soooo happy for you! That is just fantastic!

    When are you due?

    Names - Calliope
In Greek mythology, the foremost of the nine Muses and the patron of epic poetry. She and King Oeagrus of Thrace were the parents of Orpheus. She also bore Apollo two sons, Hymen and Ialemus. Other versions of the myth say she was the mother of Rhesus, king of Thrace, or the mother of Linus, inventor of melody and rhythm.

  29. P.S. -

Caprice is a synonym for Whimsy. And I just think Caprice would be a lovely name, LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Congratulations! Books are definitely a number 1 priority! =) I'm a bit biased to the name Kathryn. I didn't know any Kathryn's who went by Kathryn instead of Katie or Kathy or Kat or ... so I always felt it was unique. Good luck with everything! I'm sure you'll still be able to read lots of books. I read a lot while nursing with my first baby.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yikes!! I'm sooo happy for you beautiful!! Congratulations!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Goodness, congratulations!!! This is such exciting news! Thanks for sharing it with us so we can be excited with you. :)

As far as names...I've always liked the name Adelaide. It has such a wide variety of nicknames, too: Adele, Adela, Ada, Addie, Heidi, or even Ladey.

It's meaning: "Nobility. French Form of the Old German Adalheidis, a Compound of 'Athal' (Noble) and 'Haida' (Hood). Adelaide, the Capital of South Australia, Was Named After Queen Adelaide, King William Iv's Consor"

  56. AWW CONGRATS! That is so great. I hope that you have a great last few months. And a girl! Wow that is awesome. My first baby was born in December so I know how you feel.

I am 14 weeks so I am feeling good now but it was rough for a few months. I still got a ways to go but that's all right.

One of the names we liked for a girl was Evangeline (which is really French with the nickname Evie) and Penelope (nickname Penny). Good luck finding a name!

    ReplyDelete
  57. congratulations!! that's awesome news. i always wanted to name a future daughter camden.

  58. Sandy: Ahhh thank you thank you! :) Celeste is a lovely name. And you are so right :)

SmittensKitten: That she will :) that she will.

GMR: Thank you :) I adore Isabella but it's SO popular right now. Shame too 'cause I love the way it rolls and the meaning.

Ivana: How very true! :) Dorya is very pretty. What book did you get it from? :) Oh and what did you end up naming your boy? :)

Alita: Thank you! *smile* Alita is actually a pretty grand name :)

Penelope: *smile* I actually LOVE that name (Milagra) but it got nixed (ruined by my mama). Something about how it's not a "real" word and if I want to use it than I should use Milagros. But in English the ending sounds too much like grose. So yah I've learned my lesson and am SO not sharing the names with my mama until after she's born. ;)

Wrighty: Thank you :) That is very sage advice I plan to take. And congratulations on your upcoming grandbaby.

Cat: Thank you :) Whimsy is pretty cool isn't it? Maybe I can convince Mr. Whimsy to let me put it in there. Oh and LOL about arriving "early enough."

Meredith: *smile* You know it ;)

    Jana: Ahhhh thank you :)

Even in Austrailia: Claudia is a great name :) And you're right it works in both languages. Thank you!

Wordlily: December 20th :) So soon that my doctor was trying to give me name suggestions ;)

Marce: Thank you :) I know right? Totally out of the blew when I totally least expected it. *smile* Adhora is a splendid name. So is Chloe :)

Meg: *smile* Thank you and thank you for the awesome suggestions. I have a cousin named Ava and another named Estrella but I like Flora :)

    Carrie: Thanks :)

Alexis: Thank you :) I LOVE Isabella but due to Twilight it's like the most popular baby name in the country right now. Esmeralda is a great idea!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Congratulations! What wonderful news. And, oooh ... Esmerelda is gorgeous.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Ohhh Juju!!!!! I am sooooo happy for you! There must be something in the water around here, because you are the second book blogger in a week who announced she didn't think she would have children but is pregnant right now. What a wonderful blessing!

I never had a daughter, but if I did, her name would have been Mallory. Can't wait to meet the Little Whimsy. :)

    ReplyDelete
  74. Lydia: Thank you :) I love that name :) Sadly, the middle name starts with an A and the last name with an S - so I can't pick anything G without her having the initials "GAS". LOL :) But thank you SO much for the suggestion.

Toothy: Thank you sweetie :) Maya is a lovely name.

Emily: Thank you sweetheart! That's very kind of you. I look forward to experiencing motherhood. :)

    Jenny: Ahhh thank you :)

    Jenny N: Thanks :)

    ReplyDelete
  75. AWESOME, Juju! Congrats to both of you! That was definitely a big secret you kept! I don't know how you did it. As for names, my advice is nothing weird. Remember, the little one will have to live with the name their whole life. So..please don't name her Apple, Banjo, Moxie Crimefighter, Phineas, or Pilot Inspektor like celebs do. I think you should pick something retro: Lauren, Audrey, Katharine, Rita, Veronica, Grace, Olivia, Ava...obviously I'm picking classic movie star names. lol

    ReplyDelete
  76. Hello! Nice blog (i found you through random ramblings. I am the aussie on the youtube channel, thanks for the nice comment) Congratulations about the baby! As for names, well there arent many people in the world name Coralie :) haha. Also Amelia, Grace, Ada, Eleanor(e), Natalie, Adelaide, and Layla are pretty. Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Julie: Why thank you :) To tell you the truth, while I'm with you on most of the weird names - I kinda love Apple. Of course I won't do it. But I really wish I could. :) Oh and thank you so much for your ideas.

CoralieKate: Oh yah! It's you the hysterical Aussie girl. Thanks for popping by! :) And thank you for the congratulations :) Those are some fly names.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Congratulations!! Thanks you so much for sharing your news. And now there will be a whole new world of "My First Books..." for you to explore with the new arrival. I don't have children myself, and don't even know where I would beging choosing a name, or at least, sticking with a name once I had chosen it, so all the best with that :)

    ReplyDelete
  79. For the record, and I can't help myself here, I like the "L" names like Laura and Lucy :)

    ReplyDelete
  80. Mel: Thank you :) And you are SO right. I'm about to get into a whole new genre. Oh please don't hold back. Come back if you get more ideas. I can really use them all. Lucy is a sweet name! :)

Hmmm...there's site called Nameberry that has a LOT of lists, quirky, retro, and elegant included.

How about a literary name (like Jane), OR one from a song, like Caroline? That way, whenever the girlie hears the song, she'll feel like it was written just for her! :D

  92. So, so excited for you and Mr. Whimsy!!! It has taken me about six months but I have finally gotten us in a routine and have time to sit and blog now. So, don't give up and you'll get back to your blogging in time.
We chose our baby name---well, what am I saying---I chose the name and just told Mr. I'd So Rather Be Reading what it was going to be! I've always loved Kaitlyn and once I looked up the meaning, knew I had to have it. So my advice is to say lots of names out loud, and when one feels right to you, go with it!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Oh my word! That is AMAZING NEWS! Congratulations to you both! Oooh this is really wonderful. Even though I don't actually know you, I'm very happy for you. Babies, kids, people are great and wonderful :)

    ReplyDelete
  94. Woo, congrats!! I love that she already has books :) I'm drawing a blank on names but if I think of one, I'll come back and post it!

    ReplyDelete
  98. Kelli: Thank you :) I figure it will take me about six months to get a routine too ;) (I hear the first three months are brutal and sleep deprived). And thank you for the fabulous naming advice. I am most definitely going to take it.

    TV: Thank you :) Agreed!

Aylee: Thank you :) And I do hope you'll come back and mention if you think of anything ;)

Midnight: Thanks :) That is a good name.

Natalie & Julie: Thank you :)

    ReplyDelete
  107. Congrats! That's such exciting news. Being a mom is a lot of fun (and crazy, but mostly fun) :)
Girl's names are hard. But I've always liked the name Bea, like a shorter version of Beatrice.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Kathy: Thank you :) & *giggle* Girls names are hard! For me, way harder than boys names. Not sure why really. Beatrice is a great unique example. I have a cousin named Beatriz but I have definitely been considering that one :)

    ReplyDelete
  109. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!
I am very happy for you and I totally understand keeping this a secret until the very end. This is such awesome and sweet news. Baby girl Whimsy has books, what else could she possibly need?

Girls names are hard. I like Chloe, but not sure of the Spanish translation. Or Amelia? I stink at name :)

Girls names are SO hard. I like Chloe too :)

As to names---I've always loved the ones ending in a variation of belle, bel, bella depending upon preference.

    My three favorites are:

  118. Renee: Oh thank you sweetie :) No forgiveness needed :) It does seem to be in the water doesn't it? I hear of someone new every day. Does that mean when it rains it pours babies? Lol just kidding ;) Violet is a lovely name. Very pretty. Thank you for your well wishes and hugs :)

  121. Congratulations!

A friend recently named her little girl Catalina which I thought was very pretty. Her husband's family is spanish speaking and it sounds even better when they say it!

  122. Booksync: Thank you :) Catalina is a gorgeous name and it does sound great in Spanish (I'm Hispanic). Thank you so much for the suggestion and visit :) Catalina isn't all that far from the name I'm considering actually ;)

  127. Yay!!! I'm so excited for you & Mr. Whimsy!

Names are hard for me. I changed my mind a million times with each of my kids. I really like Estella, Amelia/Emilia, Penelope, and Esme. My girls are Abigail Elizabeth & Claire Isobel. I kind of lean towards the old fashioned names.

  128. Christie: Thank you :) You too? :) Thank goodness I'm not the only one. You and I have similar taste 'cause I love Penelope and Estella. :)
