Quotes and International Covers of White Cat by Holly Black

I listened to White Cat by Holly Black recently and these are the quotes stuck with me...

"We are largely who we remember ourselves to be.
That's why habits are so hard to break."

"Now I just want revenge. After all I'm already a murderer.
No one really expects a murder to stop killing."

"I don't want to be a monster but

maybe it's too late to be anything else."

Sounds good right?
Now tell me, have you read or listened to it?
Which cover do you like best?

1.Hardcover 2.Paperback 3.German 4.UK Hardcover 5.UK Paperback

    1. Him holding the cat? the basic cat? or the cat behind the glowing glove? :)

  2. I agree, the UK paperback is my fav, as well.

  3. I have listened to this one, and the next one in the series, RED GLOVE...loved them both.

As for the cover, familiarity has me leaning toward the hardcover, but the UK one is striking, and it fits the story best, I think.

    1. Can't wait to get Red Glove!

You and I think alike. I love the US hardcover, but I find the UK paperback most fitting.

      Thanks for visiting Jennifer!

  4. Great quotes! I like the cover with the white butterfly but it probably has nothing to do with the story, right? LOL

    1. Ha! You're good. It really doesn't have much to do with the story. Good catch/thought.

  5. love the quotes! especially the first one. and the covers? definitely 4 & 5 are my faves :-)
what i'm listening to? actually 2 books - 11-22-63 by Stephen King. I've never been a fan of Stephen King but this book is unreal in its incredibility - love it and love the narrator!
for my book club listening to When She Woke (i think that's the name) scary, frightening book about monochroming v. prisons. Hope the Whimsy family is doing well!

    1. Ooooo When She Woke sounds gooood. I will have to keep my eyes peeled for that review.

The SK one sounds good too.

Are you listening to the audios? :D I loooove me some audio reviews.

Thank you so much btw. The Whimsys are doing awesome. Happy Easter weekend darling!

  6. Oh, I loved this story. I read it in print, and I found it twisty and clever and super engaging. Glad you liked it, too! I think I actually prefer the UK hardcover - weird, eh?

    1. Weird? No way! It's got a haunting simplicity to it.

    I prefer the UK hardcover

  8. I haven't read this one yet although I have had White Cat and Red Glove on my shelf for a while now. Those are awesome quotes, I especially like the first one! This definitely makes me want to pick up the books in the near future, thanks Juju! :)

  9. So happy to see that you are reading/listening to this. I just finished the series and it was so good. I like the orginal US cover the best (since I have the first two books and the covers match) but the new covers are growing on me.

SO glad to hear the series continues to kick butt!
I can't wait to go on.

  10. I actually did listen to this one last year. I thought the narrator was pretty good and the story entertaining. I hope to get to Red Glove eventually (guess I didn't love the story enough to rush out and get it).

I think the US Hardcover(#1) is the best at depicting the feel of the book...but I must admit that the UK paperback (#5) is the most haunting and visually pleasing!

    1. I gotta get my hands on Red Glove (my library doesn't have it - booo!)!

We're in close agreement. Except I think the UK paperback gets the feel and US Hardcover is my favorite and most visually appealing :)

      Thanks for your thoughts.

    2. How ironic that we chose the same covers for the exact opposite reasons! lol

  11. I had no idea it was on audio. I'll have to look for it because as you know I love a good audio book. I hate that they changed the cover for the third book to match the paperback. I do love the UK and German. Great quotes! Have you read Holly's fey series? One of my favorites!

    1. I tried the fey series but didn't love it. I wonder if I would dig them more on audio?

OMG definitely try this audio. You will totally dig it. It's so nice to have a young male narrator.

  12. The German and the UK ones are my favorites. As for the quotes (great selection by the way), I like the first one...though it does remind us to make sure the reality lives up to our own memory. Great post Juju!

  13. Those are some great quotes. I've not had the opportunity to read or listen to this book. As for the cover I like best I'm gravitating towards the UK covers, its tough to choose between the two, but maybe I'd pick the paperback one.

  14. Great covers, I like the last one, the UK paperback. I haven't read any reviews or anything on these books but the quotes totally got my attention, going Amazon now.

    1. Oh goody! I think this is a YA you can get into. It's got a male narrator and some serious stuff going down. Right up your alley I think. :)

  15. I LOVE the new covers a lot, but I think the best is the UK paperback I think it fits perfect for the story. I have to be honest, the original US covers didn't truly appeal to me. But, now reading the quotes and .. the image (awesome!!) it makes me want to grab it and start reading :))

    1. Yes! Agreed! The cat and the glowing glove :) I do hope I inspired you.

  17. Thous quotes are making me want to reread this book! I haven't caught up on the series, and I haven't revisited White Cat since it was first published, so I forgot a lot of things that happened. I do remember enjoying it though!

  18. Love the quotes- definitely peaks my interest in this book. I haven't read or listened to it, but I met Holly Black at a book singing last year. She was so nice! I will have to get your tips regarding audio books and taking care of a baby....is that the way to go? I love the first and third cover---definitely eye catching!

    1. Too cool! :) *high five*

Oh my goodness Christina, if it wasn't for audiobooks I wouldn't be getting to enjoy any books. I hear the opportunity to read improves when the baby gets older, but at this stage I am SO grateful for audios. I get to listen to them while cleaning, driving, running errands, working out, and doing housework. Thank GOD for Audios!

  34. I like all the covers really. But what I don't like is their changing part way through the series without giving us a choice as to which we prefer!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think my favorite is the German cover!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I like them all, but I'm kind of leaning towards the UK paperback. :)

  37. I highly prefer the UK paperback! I'd come closest to reading the book based on that cover than the other ones. :)

  38. Okay, seriously, I NEED to get this book. I've seen such amazing things said about it. I'm definitely missing out on something!

As for which cover I prefer, there's something about the UK hardcover that I really love.

  39. Yes! Do you know this book has been siting on my tbr shelf foreeeever! I was told the other day by my writing crit partner that I was pretty much crazy for not having read it yet. And to read it PRONTO!. I have so many books to read, but it will be on my list soon!

  40. I SO love Holly Black! She's seriously a favorite author of mine and this was a fantastic read (I need to write my review for it in fact).

As for the cover...I'd definitely go for number four just based on looks alone, but I'm not sure it screams "White Cat" and all that's contained within it. It almost seems way too childish for the content, even though I absolutely adore it! Going based on content, I'd have to pick the first one. :)
