Well Said: Wondering

"He reads histories and mythologies and fairy tales, wondering why it seems that only girls are ever swept away from their mundane lives..."
- The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

Good question isn't it? The Night Circus audio book has been enchanting me thus far. How is your current book treating you?

  1. Ooh, that might be a great book to experience in audio. I'm reading BEACH HOUSE MEMORIES by Mary Alice Monroe and I'm loving it.

  3. Oh my goodness that quote is incredible and oh so true too! I recently got that book for my birthday and this makes me want to pick it up right away! I can't wait now, thanks Juju! :)

  4. Huh, that's got me thinking....and it's very true! Why aren't guys ever swept away too!

  5. Only girls? No way! I have to disagree. I have three younger brothers, and they found MANY books to read all about young men suddenly apprenticed to exciting people, squires who rise to the knighthood, unknowing heirs who become someone rich and great, adventurers who make a name and fortune for themselves...

The problem is, mostly this is non-fiction. Or historical fiction based on true events. I would argue that it doesn't happen to women much in real life, so they make it happen in fiction.

    But hey, that's just me.

I'm off to ponder that further.

  6. Interesting quote! I have to say that I'm reading a Christian fiction book right now that has the potential to be a fave, it's called My Stubborn Heart by Becky Wade and while I'm only about 45 pages in I'm hooked!

  7. "How is your current book treating you?"

Well, they are quite good, thank you for asking, Juju. =D

I have been reading a LOT lately. I have one that I need to be reading that goes up for review at the end of May, and I am not. =/ *nail biting* Right now I am reading a novel by Julie Lessman (her books are incredibly passionate) and am also reading Making Waves (insert "super cute" here!) plus as I said, I just finished Becky Wade's debut novel - so sweet! Loved that it was "different" from the norm.

  10. Mmm, I love that book! I may need to re-read it. :) I'm reading the first Game of Thrones book right now, because I'm addicted to the TV series. And even though it's almost word for word the same, I'm enjoying it. :)

So is the show or book better? :)

  11. That is an excellent question. I know far more women who read regularly than men. I can probably count them on less than one hand. Which really does make me wonder what happens to men to stifle their imaginations?

    1. Good question!
They do seem to have much less of an imagination!
If I ever have a boy, I will have to work on that.

I am reading a time travel romance right now called All For You. I love being swept away.

  25. Now see when I read that quote, I took it a different route than my second read of it. First thought....hmm, why would they be swept away from their un-mundane lives BY the mundane? Then I re-read and realized the folly of my initial interpretation...but you have to admit, it's a good question nonetheless! ^_^

As for my current read, the length of my answer depends on what book you are referring to, but in summary...all are going well. Happy reading!

  26. I've wanted to read The Night Circus for so long! I can't wait! Beautiful quote choice! I'm reading three books at the moment: North and South by Elizabeth Gaskill: I've heard that Thornton is the man that Darcy wished he were. On The Road by Jack Kerouac: I've been finishing this novel for years, and I just want to succeed :-), and Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare: I've been in a steampunk mood lately, and I wanted to try it on for size! Have a lovely Weekend!

You go girl for being able to read 3 at one time! :)
I can listen to several books at one time but I can't read several at one time. My brain mixes the signals when I read too many at a time. ;)
So what I'm saying is, you have mad skills! :D

  27. Such a wonderful quote! I would love to get my hands on an audiobook version of The Night Circus; I'm glad you're enjoying it so far. I just finished Project 17 by Laurie Faria Stolarz. It didn't enchant me, but it did scare me.

I'm dying to crack this one open! I've got it on my bookcase, in fact I special ordered it from the UK because I wanted that cover specifically, and I have yet to pick it up. I really want to read it!

As for my current reads...The Princess of Iowa is on my Nook and I'm really enjoying it so far. And I just finished up The Statistical Probability of Love at First site, which was really fun but not as enthralling as I'd hoped. Still, good reads all around.

  46. It's a very good question--perhaps because in fairytales girls have so many fewer options than boys, meaning that they *have* to be swept away if they're to live anything other than a mediocre life? (Thank goodness for living in the 21st century, is all I can say)
