Oh Audiobooks! My Audiobook Year Thus Far

Oh audiobooks I would be totally lost without you. Before Baby Whimsy was born the fantabulous girls at I'd Rather Be Reading suggested I try you and boy am I glad they did. Being a new mama takes lots of time management. You make my housework fly by and understand that my evenings are for my husband. Since the baby was born in December 2011 you have been my constant companion. I never leave home without you. Honestly, I don't know where this blog would be without you! Thank you audiobooks. We haven't been together long but I see a long happy future with you.

Here are some of my favorites so far:

This post is in conjunction with Listen Up! Audiobook Week hosted by Devourer of Books.com.

  3. Audiobooks are so wonderful. I love to listen to them while exercising or cleaning. They do make the time fly by!

I'll have to check to see if my library has any of your favorites on audio - I'm especially curious about Coraline :)

    1. O Coraline is fantastic. Neil is superb as a narrator and it's short.

  4. I think I need to give audiobooks a chance. My local e-library has tons of titles, but it's been a pain to figure out how to use them.

If you've been considering trying audio, check out: http://www.audiobooksync.com/
Each week this summer they are giving away 2 free audios (a recent release and classic).

  5. I've never used AudioBooks but my dad does sometimes and I think they are great if you love reading but don't have the time to sit and enjoy a book. :-)

  6. I love audiobooks too, and am so thankful for them. I really do credit them for helping me with my weight loss goals. Sometimes, I put on my headphones, jump on a treadmill, and don't want to get off because the story is so amazing. LOL

LOVE this post. I'm glad you are enjoying your time with audios too. :)

I used to listen to stories on vinyl when I was a child and LOVED it.
And I really need to read The Incorrigle Children series!

I wish you all the best for your future with audiobooks! You seem to be getting on quite well! :)

    1. On vinyl! I remember that. That was fun.

I just snagged book 2 on the Incorrigible Children on audio. I can't wait to listen to it. Children's audios are a great place to start. They're short and fun.

  23. Since my commute went from four minutes to now over a half hour each way, I have also learned to love e-books. If you haven't heard Stephen Fry's version of the Potter books you should look them up. He does voices for EVERYONE. Personally I love his Dobby!

    ReplyDelete

    1. I haven't tried his version. I've heard people rave about Jim Dale's version. Have you tried both? How do they compare? Thank you so much for the recommendation.

      Delete
    2. Jim Dale is a bit more straight-forward story teller with a bit of flare. If you know Stephen Fry, the man is all flare! For fans of the book looking for something really new I'd say Stephen Fry hands down. First time readers I'd recommend Jim Dale, if that makes sense.

    3. PS also Stephen Fry reads the British versions. Great way to get them if you can only find the American ones in your area.

    4. That makes perfect sense. I think you've totally sold me on the Fry versions. I had no idea either. Thank you so much for breaking that down for me. *high five*

  27. I will need to get into audios a bit more once my baby arrives. I think it's a brilliant idea and will have to check out some of your favorites. Do you get your audio books from the library, buy them or are they all for review?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes definitely! :)

I usually get mine from the library.
Mr. Whimsy also bought me a 3 month subscription to Audible.
So far I've only received one for review.
