I was shocked when I heard the news yesterday. RIP Maeve Binchy.
I have never read a single one of her books. Should I?
You so should. Her books are like warm blankets on a winter's night. They're comforting and perfect for snuggling.
Any recommendations on which one to start with?
I haven't tried her latest (Minding Frankie) but I hear it's great. I of course have a soft spot for Circle of Friends. For you I would recommend Light a Penny Candle. It's sweet, nostalgic, and about the kind of friendships that last a life time.
I've read a few of her books and loved them all. =/
I love reading her books and Circle of friends introduced to her books , and when I free chance I read them :) They were like a good friend.
Yes! Exactly! :)
I remember watching the movie Circle of Friends many years ago and loving it. I am going to have to read the book now, thank you for the post.
I heart the movie too. Not as much as the book of course.Heads up: the book ends differently :)Thank you for commenting and stopping by.
It's wonderful when we are blessed with someone who shares such a beautiful, gift with the rest of us, and I don't know of any better a gift then that of a book that transports us to another place. Thank you for sharing, PaulaTomes Devotee
Amen.Well said Paula. Well said.Thank you for stopping by :)
How odd, we were just talking about her yesterday. Thanks for letting us know & of course, we'll join you!
I loved Circle of Friends. I haven't read any of her other books though I'd always meant to. It was sad and surprising to hear of her passing. I was also sad to hear about the recent passing of Donald Sobol of Encyclopedia Brown fame and Else Minarik who wrote the Little Bear books.
Right? So sad.Can you believe I don't remember Little Bear books?I must rectify that.
Mourn, I will. I don't even remember the Maeve Binchy book that I read, but only that it totally sucked me in and was quite satisfying. God rest her soul.
She was like that.Like a warm blanket of writing.
I just bought a gang of her books as I've never read her. I'll have to get to them soon. Sorry to hear of her passing. Rest in Peace Miss Binchy.
That's awesome. That's a wonderful way to honor her.
Clearly my life is lacking, because I've never read anything by her! We've lost some great authors this year, Maurice Sendak and Else Minarik in particular. They basically shaped my childhood.
Yes we have (lost some great authors).:(I bet they never tired of hearing things like "they shaped my childhood".:)
It is a sad indeed to see what seems a very good talent leave us!
Such a sad day :(
Circle of Friends is and always will be one of my beloved favorites! Thank you for recognizing Maeve Binchy's passing, and allowing us to share the grief together.
Mine too :)It holds a special place in my heart.
