Click Click: Let's Talk Instagram

I finally joined Instagram. I know I know I'm always late to the game. I blame my smartphone. I pretty much LOVE taking pictures with it. I also LOVE browsing all the gorgeous nature photography on Instagram. So here is what I've found so far, most folks crosspost on Twitter and Instagram. I totally get that but I don't love seeing the repeats. So I've been thinking, if one of my friends is a big crossposter, I might follow them on one or the other instead of both.

Is that OK?

Tales of Whimsy on Instagram

  1. I'm still not sure I get the point of Instagram. I mostly use it to post pics to FB & to check in on the teens. What will you be using it to post?

    1. I use it like the photo version of Twitter. So if I have something I quickly want to say, I tweet it. If I have a picture I quickly want to share, I tweet it. If I have a photo I love and want shared on a larger scale or something I reallly want to say that takes more than 140 characters, then I blog it. Does that make sense?

  2. I have yet to join Instagram and I really don't understand how it works, but my eldest uses it (and Tumblr, also something I don't use) a lot. The thought of one more social media site makes my brain jiggle a bit at the moment... but I do love taking pictures. I'm not great at it, but I like it. :) But I always love the pics you post here, Juju, so I might be persuaded to join, just so I can see more! Hope it goes well for you!

    1. That's how I am too. I adore taking pictures. Especially with the phone. It allows me to really focus on the part of photography I think I'm best at which is composing an image. I still have a lot to learn when it comes to my fancy camera and exposures.

I was hesitant at first too, but it's actually pretty easy and fast to flip through photos. Much quicker than Twitter as long as you keep your list of who you follow short.

Thanks! I hope you decide to take the plunge or pop by for a visit. I'll be keeping the photos their unique to Instagram.

Yes. Absolutely. There is this one photographer in the Pacific Northwest that I'm pretty into already.

  5. I've been a Blackberry girl through and through for years, so no Instagram for me... but my phone is getting old and slow and clumsy so I'm contemplating switching to iPhone and, if I do, one of the first things I'll do is signing up to Instagram! As much as I'm no Twitter or Facebook or social media fan in general, I love going through my favourite bloggers' Instagram accounts! The fact that it's visual first speaks to me.

And now you're on it, which is even more awesome! :) I already love your photos!

    1. Thank you! I love your photography so that's such a huge compliment coming from you.

For years I didn't want a smartphone. But then when the plans were basically the same price as it was with a regular phone, it was time. The camera aspect really pushed me over the edge too. Last Christmas I was shooting pictures with my mom's phone and it was just so easy and fun.

You're gonna love it when you make the switch. You love photography like I do and there are sooo many gorgeous feeds. Especially for nature and floral loving gals like us.

  6. Love Instagram! It's such a great way to document one's day :)

  7. I like taking pictures, too! And I also love nature. I may or may not join Instagram one day when I get a smartphone. It's so fun to sort of ''immortalize'' memories through photography. Time passes fast.

    1. Yes definitely. It's so fun and time passes so quickly. It's nice to have a way to look back at it all.

Speaking of time passing and immortalizing things, make sure you seek out Timehop when you get a smartphone. It's a pretty fabulous app.

  8. I have fun with Instagram! I don't have the best smart phone, so my pictures aren't as great as those belonging to someone with an iPhone or Galaxy. I don't cross-post to my blog Facebook anymore, and I don't have Twitter... :)

  9. I post my photos on Instagram and share it on twitter. However, most of my thoughts are in twitter. Mind following me on them? I'm over at zoecayetano on Instagram and @ZoeAiyanna on Twitter. See you there! xx

  10. I've not un-followed anyone yet as a result of their feeds being mirror images but then, I don't think I follow anyone whose Twitter feed is basically just their Instagram feed. Plus sometimes I see it on Twitter first since I haven't used Instagram as much - or if I'm not on my phone (I confess to preferring to use the computer to reply to Instagram comments, etc - that phone keyboard is tiny).

Happy Instagram-ing, Juju. Your feed is beautiful. :)

    1. That makes total sense. You're a crossposter that leans more to Twitter. So I think I'll keep following you on Twitter so I can see everything over there. I love you on Twitter btw. You're always a sweet supportive ray of sunshine! Thank you.

I feel ya too. Mini keyboards are not easy. I'm so grateful for the swype text feature.

Personally, I'm like you, I don't like to see twice the same content. So I don't do it either. My instagram stuff stays on Instagram, except for the very occasional times when I share a handful on the blog. I find Instagram so simple and fun to use!

    1. Right on. Thank you! I'm so glad I'm not alone. I don't mind seeing it on the blog at some point but I don't like when Instagram feels like an extension of Twitter. I'd rather just follow on Twitter in those cases. :)

Yes! It is really fun and easy.

  15. YES! All my instagram pictures go to Twitter :) I like the filters for instagram but nothing is there that isn't posted to twitter so don't feel the need to follow me there. I will however follow you!

That makes total sense. I love that you recognize that and advise your followers of it. Smart cookie! :)

  16. Yay! You're on Instagram. I must find you. I don't know about the cross-posting thing…I rarely do that…only if I have a really great picture I want to share.

  17. I have yet to jump on the instagram bandwagon but that's because I'm camera shy. But you always take such lovely photos so instagram should be a perfect fit for you :)

    1. Don't let that hold you back. I'm camera shy too with no intentions of changing. My favorite feeds are the ones with cityscapes, landscapes, flowers, food, coffee, etc. etc. I love the window into people's every day lives really.

  22. That is absolutely OK! No reason to get doubles. I agree about the cross-posting. I share some of my IG shots on Facebook, some on Twitter, others on Flickr or Tumblr, yet others I only share on Instagram. Not everything needs to be screamed to the furs winds, as my grandma used to say!

  24. Welcome to instagram! I can't wait to see more of your photos! They always make me smile or sigh:) I do cross post a lot. Basically just like my blog posts auto post to facebook and twitter...I also have my instagram posts go to twitter and facebook. I think that's what most people do so that followers wherever may see them...especially since some feeds move so much faster and posts disappear quickly. Regarding following or unfollowing...just do whatever works for you...there is no right or wrong except for what is right for you!

  31. I didn't read all the comments. I sometimes cross-post but not all the time. I ONLY read twitter in real-time (I'll sometimes scroll through but I don't stress about it) whereas I am more likely to see and comment on pictures in Instagram than see them on twitter. If it's a picture I think might be of interest on twitter, I'll double post it. Different audiences--not everyone is on instagram!

That said, I'm excited you're now on Instagram!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Right on. I totally get the different audience thing. I myself didn't have Instagram for the longest time. I am a scroller so I definitely feel the repeat thing. So now that I'm on both, I think with certain people (who do crosspost quite a bit) I prefer sticking to one or the other. But what I'm wondering is, is that something crossposters understand? Like do you think they get the other side of it or do they get offended if an online pal doesn't follow on both?

      Thank you!

  32. I love Instagram the most out of all the social media. I love how visual it is. Yours looks very pretty! I don't think people will be offended if you follow on one and not the other.

  35. Love your instragram pics! I'm following. (And you reminded me that I need to update my own instagram. I take lots of pics & always forget to post . . . )

    ReplyDelete
  36. I completely understand not following both places! I have wondered if people got tired of my repeats, but in my reality, very few of my instagram followers have a twitter account, so I figure it evens out okay. If that makes sense? Great pic up there, by the way! :)

  38. I've been on Instagram for a few years and love it! I prefer it to twitter because I am a more visual person, but I am definitely guilty of cross posting and having all of my instagrams sent to my twitter account. I think it's fine to choose to follow someone on just one if they cross post a lot!
