Wee-view Book Review: Naked Heat

2¢ Worth: Buckle up 'cause Naked Heat is like riding shotgun with Castle and Beckett (I mean Nikki Heat and Jameson Rook) AND it is better than Heat Wave. Weird right? How often is the second book better than the first? Like never. But this time it really is. It's like Heat Wave set the stage so Naked Heat could shine. While Heat Wave occasionally felt wordy and lacked fluidity, Naked Heat is funnier, wittier, and flows effortlessly. Maybe it's because the stage has already been set and therefore this story required less description. Either way Naked Heat really works. Just like the show, this book made me smile and the mystery kept me guessing. Naked Heat is a delightful, 5 star, solid crime novel. Weird to have delightful and crime novel in the same sentence but in this case, it's true.

Whodunit verdict: You'll never guess. I couldn't.

Wire tip: Castle fans keep your eyes pealed for the shout out to episodes 17 (Tick, Tick, Tick...) and 18 (Boom!) from Season 2.

Whippersnappers: While nothing is too descriptive, there are mentions to sex, drug abuse, infidelity, black mail, gangs, suicide, and of course murder.

Christmas Audiobook Review: The Christmas Secret

2¢ Worth: This is one of those great character driven stories where all the characters don't really realize, until the end, how serendipitous their coming together is. Each person plays a roll in helping the other find their way. By the end you're completely invested and you can't wait for them to put all the pieces together and realize how blessed they really are. This tale is full of wonderful thoughtful quotes that I often had to replay, pause, and ponder. Ultimately this story is like hot chocolate with a friend after a long day of Christmas shopping. It's comforting and reminds you of what is important and what some people go through all year round.

Words aloud: The Christmas Secret is read by the authoress herself. Donna does a great job with the voices of her characters and the pace. The only thing I had trouble with is that sometimes the point of view changed and it took me a few seconds to catch up. It would have been nice if she said the character's name before switching to that character's POV.

Whisper: The book seems to say, be kind and generous because you never know what someone has gone through, the difference your kindness can make, or how they're connected to you.

Whippersnappers: The characters in The Christmas Secret have all been through something. So expect some mentions to drug abuse, infidelity, premarital sex, sex, child neglect, illness, and a few minor curse words.

Wind-up: The Christmas Secret by Donna VanLiere is read by the authoress and consists of 5 discs (6 hours and 20 minutes). An audio sample of The Christmas Secret is available at Audible.com. But don't let the prologue deter you. It really does get much much better. Audiobook rating: 5 stars. Narrator rating: 4 stars.

2¢ Worth: The Snowflake by Jamie Carie may be my favorite read of the 2011 holiday season. You see despite being a novella of only 209 pages, The Snowflake has it all. It is beautifully written, has complex characters, tender emotions, depth, and manages to stay exciting and move swiftly. When I wasn't holding my breath I was smiling. I declare The Snowflake to be the perfect 5-star holiday read for any fan of Christian Fiction. I would tell you more, but I don't want to give anything away. One thing is for sure, I will be looking for more books by Jamie Carie.

Whippersnappers: There are minor mentions to murder, vengeance, and prostitution.

Christmas Wee-view: The Christmas List

2¢ Worth: The Christmas List by Richard Paul Evans is a 4-star quick Christmas read that is sure to remind you of A Christmas Carol. James, a cut-throat business man, is accidentally reported dead by the local newspaper. This mistake gives him the greatest gift he ever could have imagined. You see James gets to see what people really think of him and who refuses to belittle him, even in death. What follows is his journey to make things right. It sounds simple but it was really quite moving and original. By the end I cried. This is the kind of books that leaves you wondering if you owe anyone an apology.

Whippersnappers: There are minor mentions to infidelity, drug and alcohol abuse, and suicide.

A Deadly Game is a seriously good, fast-paced, must read for any mystery fan that lives in Kentucky or enjoys a good scavenger hunt. This one is a race against the clock to save a kidnapped child. I relished the clues, trip around the state, and the budding romance. I will definitely be on the lookout for more Virginia Smith. Do you have a favorite Virginia Smith read? 4 stars

O.K. so Belly Laughs didn't actually make me belly laugh. But it does provide honest and candid information about what really happens to a woman's body during pregnancy. The stuff no one likes to talk about and What to Expect When You're Expecting glides right over, is the stuff Jenny happily reveals. I must say her take on several aspects really stuck with me and that makes Belly Laughs a quick must read for first-time expecting mommies. 3 stars

Baby Changes Everything (Embracing and Preparing for Motherhood after 35) is geared more towards second (third, fourth, or fifth) time moms. This one tries to be supportive and encouraging but came across as more of a downer with minimal real advice dispensed. While it didn't work for me, I could see it being helpful to Christian mothers of grown children who are suddenly expecting again. 2 stars

While Anya's Ghost definitely has cool art, I found neither Anya nor her ghostly friend likable. In the end I was relieved. Not for Anya but for the poor people (her mom and brother) that love her. 1 star

Whippersnappers: The story doesn't hold back. There is teen smoking as well as mentions to murder, sex, and sexual identity.

2¢ Worth: While I love Christmas stories, it is a truth universally acknowledged that Christmas stories are usually sweet and sappy. Something that doesn't always appeal to every reader. Well perk up my darlings cause Sweet Magik is all about adding spice to that sugar. Sweet Magik is book two in a series by Penny Watson about the oh-so-hunky beefcake sons of Santa. Each story features one son and his journey for love. What makes the stories unique is that each of the Klaus boys are very different and therefore each encounters and deals with their very own distinct dilemmas. Sweet Magik is about the youngest of the bros, Oskar. Oskar is a punk daredevil who meets his match in a reserved bookworm with a sad past. Together they tackle some hot attraction and some dark elfin magic. The result is a magical journey full of sexy moments and tests of love.

Whimsical: Two words for you = Santa's Castle

Wrapping: I'm not going to lie, I'm not a fan of the cover. I prefer the cutey animated cover of Sweet Inspiration. Plus, Oskar has way more tats then they featured on this cover. But don't let that stop you!

Whisper: The story definitely reminds the reader not to be so quick to judge.

Whippersnappers: This one is descriptive, juicy, and peppered with the occasional playful curse word.

Warm holiday fuzzies meter: Low Medium High

Word to the wise: You do not have to read Sweet Inspiration to enjoy Sweet Magik. They are both independent romances.

Wishing: Oskar is a mega cutie but I can not wait for Sven's story, Sweet Adventure (due out in 2012). Apparently Sven and Gregor meet some sisters that turn everything upside down. According to Penny's site she promises Sweet Adventure will have, "mayhem, espionage, and lusty interludes". Whoot! I can not wait.

What's what: Need some history on the guys?

Nicholas Klaus, Jr. = the master chef = desserts and goodies (Sweet Inspiration)

Oskar Klaus = the punk brother = employee (i.e. elfin) relations (Sweet Magik)

Cover Crazy Monday: Selling Hope

This weekend at the Kentucky Book Fair, I came across this gorgeous cover. Even Mr. Whimsy agreed it was the loveliest cover of the event. I love that it is both dreamy and old-fashioned. It makes want to spend an evening watching the stars. I can not seem to take my eyes off of it.

Book Review & Author Interview: Goodnight Tweetheart

2¢ Worth: Do you ever hit a slump? That horrible moment, that at one point or another, gets every reader. The moment when no book works. Well have I got the book for you. I call it, the slump slayer. Goodnight Tweetheart is like candy and a chick flick for the thirsty reader. It's wickedly funny, light, and fast-paced. Don't do Twitter? Don't worry, neither do I. Because honestly you don't have to be a fan of Twitter to enjoy the delicious banter, flirtation, and dialogue full of pop culture references.

Wrapping quote: "Told almost entirely in tweets and DMs, Goodnight Tweetheart is a truly modern take on a classic tale of love and loss—a Griffin and Sabine for the Twitter generation."

Wooed: I love(d) this book so much that this review basically wrote itself. I love when that happens.

Wrinkle: The ending isn't tied in bow. It's tender and lets the reader's imagination fill in the blanks.

Whippersnappers: It is quite clean but there are minor mentions to illness, drug abuse, and previous infidelities. You can also expect some playful sexual innuendos.

Writer Q & A:

Q: How old are Mark and Abby?

A: "Abby would have been around 29 at the time the book took place and Mark would have been around 30 or 31. I had to do the math by remembering that Green Day's "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" was playing at Abby's junior prom. They're obviously familiar with a lot of TV shows that were "before their time" but I cheated by making them both huge fans of TV Land and Nick at Nite. ;) I have an extremely broad frame of reference when it comes to classic television and movies so I didn't think it was that much of a stretch to give them the same skill set."

Q: How did you come up with the concept for Goodnight Tweetheart? I noticed in the acknowledgments that you said Mark and Abby started tweeting in your head. Can you tell my readers more about that?

A: "I came up with the idea for GOODNIGHT TWEETHEART because I loved Twitter so much. When I realized I'd written about 80,000 words in "tweets", enough for a full-length novel, I decided it might be time to find a way to make this venue work for me creatively. My brain "tweets" all the time anyway. I also wanted to see if two characters could create a deep and meaningful connection using a medium that seems so superficial. Snippets of their conversation would pop into my head when I was driving or taking a shower or waiting in the drive-thru lane at Starbucks. I wrote a great deal of the book while sitting at Starbucks and as I was creating the dialogue between Mark and Abby, there were times when I almost felt like Mark was real and was tweeting with me. After I finished the book, I missed them both terribly, almost as if I'd lost two genuine friends!"

What's what: So what I'm saying is, read this book. Goodnight Tweetheart by Teresa Medeiros is a 5 star, updated and sweeter You've Got Mail that won my heart.

Audiobook Review: The Mysterious Howling

2¢ Worth: The Mysterious Howling was my first audiobook and I am glad to say, I am sold. The story is about a nineteenth century brand new graduate of governess school, who unwittingly becomes the governess to three sweet but wild children. The story of how she prepares her charges for presentation to polite society is both endearing and often comical. I loved hearing the Incorrigibles evolve. But the part I enjoyed the most is the mystery. Someone is trying to sabotage the kids and the story ends with a mystery, some strange noises, and the promise of more secrets to come. Be prepared to have this book leave you pondering theories.

Words aloud: As I stated before, I am new to audios. But the one thing I have learned already, is that an audiobook is only as good it's narrator. Katherine Kellgren did an amazing job convincing me she is in fact the voice of the prim, proper, and plucky British governess Penelope Lumley. She was also great with the various voices of the supporting characters. Honestly, I rather miss her reading to me and can't wait to find more books narrated by her.

Wooed: Penelope is one funny lass. Her thoughts and imagination had me smiling almost the entire time.

Whippersnappers: Clean but be forewarned, the social issue of hunting is addressed and it is obvious that the writer is not a fan.

Word to the wise: While this story is written for children, Penelope's reflections will definitely appeal to adults.

Wind-up: The Mysterious Howling (The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place Book #1) was written by Maryrose Wood. Audiobook Review: Coraline

2¢ Worth: Back when I saw Coraline the film for the first time I remember thinking, "Goodness this weird and creepy. I don't see why people like it so much." Then recently, under the recommendation of Books for Ears, I decided to try Coraline the audiobook. What I found is that Coraline IS creepy but in good, hard to stop listening, full of subtle messages sort of way. Neil's story telling of a girl who inadvertently brings darkness upon her family and how she goes about saving them is captivating.

Words aloud: Coraline is read by the author himself Neil Gaiman. Even though Coraline is a first-person story read by an adult male, Neil does a fantastic job reading it. I found myself excited to hear more. As only the author can do, he knew exactly what parts to emphasize and how to sing the scary little tune the rats chant. He even rocks the voices of the other characters. Honestly, it felt like listening to a scary story by a bonfire.

Wooed: I adored the pompous proud cat and his ingenious quips. Something he was robbed of in the film.

Whippersnappers: Had I listened to Coraline as a child, it probably would have scared the daylights out of me. Therefore, I recommend parents listen to Coraline first before deciding to share it with their children. This will help each person decide if their little one is brave enough to handle the spirits and monsters. When Neil was asked if the book is for children or adults here is what he answered:

"If it has to be put into a box that's the sort of stuff you'd find in the box it goes into: books with young protagonists, with stories that children enjoy and that adults enjoy and they seem to be enjoying different things. As a general sort of rule, kids seem to read it as an adventure. Adults get nightmares. Does that help?"

Word to the wise: This is a perfectly eerie quickie for those looking for something Halloweenesque or for a short interesting audio.

What about the film?: Ah the film. So many unnecessary changes and additions. In some ways the film is creepier. In other ways it isn't creepy enough. One thing I do know for sure, the audiobook is WAY better and more entertaining. This is one of those of cases where I believe the audio is the best format to enjoy this story. Why you ask? Because it leaves the visuals up to your imagination.

Wind-up: Coraline is a novella written by Neil Gaiman. The audiobook is read by the author and consists of 3 discs (3 hours and 36 mins). An audio sample of the Coraline is available at Audible.com. Audiobook rating: 4 stars. Narrator rating: 5 stars.

Wee-view: When Autumn Leaves

2¢ Worth: When Autumn Leaves wasn't the autumnal jewel I was hoping for. Apart from the gorgeous yet misleading cover (it changes seasons and spends very little time on fall) the structure of the story was really frustrating. Autumn (the town witch and enchantment guru) is looking for a successor and each chapter is a tiny window into one of those candidates. So what made it frustrating? Just when you start rooting for someone, you are introduced to someone else. Just when you think you're starting to understand the magic that chapter is alluding to, the story changes gears. None of the characters get any closure and ultimately the story lacked glue. It was if each chapter was piece of a pie that never really came together as a whole.

Whippersnappers: Infidelity and some profanity.

Review: Kiss of Night

2¢ Worth: Kiss of Night begins like a classic vampire novel but quickly spins into a modern day battle of the vampires in today's Prague. Underneath the battle is a mystery I was quickly sucked into. Susan, one the main human characters, spends the story trying to find out what her family connection to the vampires is and why she will play an intricate role in helping defeat the evil vamp intent on world domination. Yet what makes Kiss of Night different and memorable is the way God, faith, and prayer are effortlessly woven in. Traditionally in vampiric literature the faithful are mocked by the vampires. This time a Friar Laurence like vampire monk actually encourages prayer before battle. The end result is a fascinating and exciting 4-star battle for good with a new view on vamps.

Wrapping: The sexy brooding Johnny Depp look alike on the cover is totally accurate for the main hottie vamp Raphael.

Wire tip: This will be a three part series.

Wooed: I am loving the undeniable and inexplicable connection and attraction Susan and Raphael are trying to fight.

Wrinkle: There was one minor lull around the half way point.

Whisper: The message seems to be that no one is beyond prayer and salvation.

Warning: Cliff hanger alert! I was itching to find out what happens when they win and how a vampire that repents is handled, but it appears there is way more brawling and mystery to be revealed first.

Whippersnappers: As is with all vampire stories, there is death and a bit of sensuality. It is tasteful but best suited for older readers.

Wisdom:
"All that evil needs to succeed is for good people to stand by and do nothing."

"Generations crying out for meaning in their life, for something to believe in beyond themselves, and afraid or unable to embrace faith. Tragedy is all around us."

Word to the wise: If you are a vampire purist or traditional Christian Fiction enthusiast you may find issues with this novel. However, if you're an open-minded reader or someone who has been looking to try Christian Fiction for the first time, definitely try this book. I'm hooked. And while it may not be a recognized genre, I will from this point forward refer to books in this category as Supernatural Christian Fiction. Now I really can't wait to try Plain Fear: Forsaken.

Whimsy Update: Soon We Will Be Three

I have a confession to make...I've been keeping something from you ladies. Soon I will be sporting one of these. That's right, Mr. Whimsy and I are expecting a baby Whimsy this December.

The facts:

We didn't think we could have babies.
Therefore, she is our unexpected surprise and blessing.
We have no clue what to name her. Got any ideas?
Her room is nowhere near done BUT she does already have books.

The truth:

I have no idea how exactly this will effect Tales of Whimsy, but I have every intention of continuing to read, blog, and visit your blogs.
I am however pretty sure it will take me some time to get into the swing of things and find a new groove.
I have been changing the pace here at Tales of Whimsy so the transition will hopefully feel rather smooth.

So seriously, do you have any name ideas? Ideally the name will be lovely, unique, mean something cool, and sound good in English as well as Spanish.

News Flash: Labor Day the Movie

I'm late with this info but I just had to share it. It appears Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin have been signed to appear in the film version of Labor Day by Joyce Maynard. The other good news? It will be directed by Jason Reitman (best known for his work on Juno and Up in the Air). I was really moved by Labor Day and can not wait for this movie. I think it is because I have a tender place for stories with wounded souls that find peace and home in one another.

Question 1: Waterfall opens with the introduction of Gabi, shes depressed, a little angry and is dealing with feelings of loneliness. Are you connecting with her this soon in the novel?
Do you see things you like or dislike?

I liked Gabi from the start. I wanted to slap her for not enjoying Italy the way I would have, but that quickly passed. She's brave and smart.

Question 2: Gabi gets to time travel back to 14th Century Italy - The Dark Ages in its prime.
Is there anytime in history that fascinates you and would you travel back if you could?

I have dreamed of having access to a time machine ever since Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989). My first choice would be New York City during the roaring twenties. I want to dance the night away in a red flapper dress. My second choice would be the late forties. I am obsessed with forties fashion.

Question 3: Most of the men, including Marcello have a very set opinion about a woman's place. Gabi gets manhandled a bit in these first few chapters, and even gets asked if shes a witch. The men are shocked when Gabi rides a horse like a man and shimmies down the castle walls. What do you think of mens mentality back then?
Gentlemanly, chauvinistic, simple-minded?

It was the time. For a modern-day woman it would be frustrating. But I also think I would find it extremely gentlemanly.

Question 4: When Gabi becomes a part of this era, the people are immediately intrigued but suspicious of her. Many judge her by her difference. Do you think this is fair? Have you ever been in a situation where you felt like an outsider or that others were misjudging you?

People will always be slightly afraid of things that are different at first. Fair? No. Understandable? Yes. Has it happened to me? Sure. But it's part of life and dealing with people. Plus, the older I get the more I relish being the different one.

Question 5: What do think the coolest thing would be about living in the Dark Ages?
What would be the worst?

Coolest: Getting dressed up for huge lavish dinners and roaming the castle. I have always dreamed of seeing and exploring a castle.
Worst: I could live with baths. I would enjoy having someone take care of me and even help me dress. But the no toilet thing would make me crazy. The bad breath would be horrendous. And the no medical care would scare the shapoopy out of me.

Review Worshipping: Matched

2¢ Worth: Matched is a quiet book. One that evolves mostly around a girl in a futuristic dystopian society who for all intents and purposes (as the cover alludes to) lives in a bubble. A bubble she has never questioned. But one small pinprick in that bubble leads the girl to question everything she has so easily accepted her whole life.

Why the pills? Why is their food and exercise controlled?

Why is technology kept to a minimum? Why must everyone die at 80?

Why are there only 100 poems? Why does no one create any more?

Slowly these questions ignite a quiet fire, a restless hunger, and an uncontrollable tremble between the girl and the boy who shouldn't be. With every inch of mounting tension, Matched crawled under my skin and left me breathless. I can not wait to know more. Hurry Crossed hurry! 5 stars

Wrinkles: Some say, the world building lacks in this story. I have faith that as Cassia strikes out on her own, we will learn more about life outside her bubble.

What's what: Matched sat on my TBR shelf for quite some time. Until the sweet and sassy Tipsy Reader perfectly matched Promises (by Nero) to Matched. The moment I watched this video, I dropped everything I was doing, snatched Matched off my shelf, and started reading. Want to see what sparked me? Head over to YouTube and watch Promises by Nero.

Wee-view: Elixir

2¢ Worth: The first twenty pages of Elixir are slow. But then it evolves into mysterious dreams of reincarnation with a gorgeous strange Jason Bourne like hottie that spirals into an exciting race to unravel the Shakespearean like tragedy that is Clea, Sage, and Ben. The writing is at times awkward but the story and the tangled weave of deciphering the truth from fiction and the past from the present is excellent. Overall, Hilary needs to evolve a bit as a writer but she scores mega points with me on concept. The result is a nail biting, 3 star read with a mega cliffhanger.

Whippersnappers: Expect sex and murder.

Wrapping: While the floral cover is pretty, this one fits the story better, holds an air of mystery, and manages a little foreshadowing.

Wee-view: Dark Mirror

2¢ Worth: The Dark Mirror started strong and lovely. I found it quickly engaging. Teen British aristocrats who show show magical abilities are sent away to have their distasteful mage ways corrected. Some of the teens unite in secret sessions to learn their powers, explore their potential, and discuss how they can aide England from Napoleon's impending attacks. But then the book takes a sharp unexpected turn from the verge of war in 1803 to war-torn 1940. The shift felt sudden, unnatural, and blocked. While I relished 1803, I could have done without 1940. The magic parts that had previously been flowing ended with the time travel. After that everything felt wonky. 2 stars

Yackety-yak: Let's Talk Trilogies

I have a confession. Trilogies are starting to bug me. The problem is by the time the next book comes out, I feel as though the details of the previous book have gotten fuzzy. Especially with those that pick up exactly where the previous one left off. My reviews don't help because I aim to keep them spoiler free with minimal plot reveals. It makes me wish books came with a "Previously..." recap similar to what the TV networks do at the beginning of new TV seasons. So you know what I'm thinking? I am seriously considering trying to avoid trilogies until all 3 books are out and I know I can jump to the next book. Huge huh?

Has this ever happened to you? What do you think of trilogies?

Wee-view: When You Reach Me

2¢ Worth: When You Reach Me (by Rebecca Stead) is an engrossing Middle-Grade mystery about a twelve-year-old girl (in 1978) who begins to receive cryptic notes from the future. As the mystery subtly unravels the girl learns about friendship, kindness, and the possibility that the time travel mentioned in her favorite book may be more than just science fiction. The ending is excellent and I consider it an instant classic I would recommend to any girl. When You Reach Me is a 5-star fresh take on time travel that pays homage to a Wrinkle in Time, makes you think, and feels incredibly contemporary.

Whisper: I believe the message is in the homeless man. He holds a secret and seems to remind children to have compassion and remember ever homeless person has a past and a story.

Whippersnappers: Minor mentions to nudity and the word "hell" is used once.

Wee-view: Torment

The good = Luce gets some backbone
The bad = No questions answered
The lovely = Miles

2¢ Worth: Despite the fact that Torment takes it's time, it was nice to see Luce actually questioning her future and past with Daniel. She feels more empowered and less desperate in Torment. The most enjoyable aspect of this story is without a doubt Miles. Finally a sweet, kind, loving, fun guy shows Luce there is more to life than the morose Daniel. I look forward to seeing what happens to Miles. 3 stars

Whippersnappers: A few profanities and some definite line blurring between the angels and demons.

Wee-view: Mercy

2¢ Worth: Laurie Faria Stolarz called Mercy by Rebecca Lim, "A modern day Quantum Leap with angels". I could not agree more. This story starts with a fallen angel (named Mercy) bouncing into a new body and then helping the hot (emotionally distant) Ryan race against the clock to solve the case of his missing choir girl twin sister. But then it evolves into something enigmatic, dark, and mysterious with mounting tension, danger, and a twisted ending that left me wanting more for and from Mercy. 4 stars

Whine: While Mercy herself fascinated me, it took me awhile to connect with her. Oh and why oh why didn't she just kiss Ryan? Grrrr!

Whippersnappers: Profanity and mentions to sex, abuse, and rape.

Review: Ballad

What can I tell you that you haven't already heard about Ballad?

It is mesmerizing, fluid, and hypnotizing. Like the lilting ballad in the book, once it started I was like a moth to a flame.

What can I tell you about Maggie's writing that you don't already know?

She manages this amazing balance between lyrical prose and realistic emotions.

2¢ Worth: I finally read Ballad by Maggie Stiefvater. Ballad starts where Lament left off. A slightly broken Dee & James try to start over at a new school only to find the fae battle has followed them there. But the best part of Ballad is James. He is tired of being Dee's lackey and he's not gonna take it anymore. Yay James! The new love interest (Nuala) was a joy to meet and I loved witnessing her transformation. At first I regarded her wearily but slowly (through her true devotion to James) she won me over. The ending was stupendous, had some twists I did not see coming, and left me desperate for more. 5 stars

Whine: My only regret about Ballad is that I waited so long to read it.

Whippersnappers: The keeper of the dead is ultra dark and creepy.

2¢ Worth: Eden doesn't race to it's destination but that doesn't keep it from being compelling. I hungrily devoured this tale of surviving a futuristic world where robotic limbs and artificial organs evolved into an infection that (with one touch) turns mortals into robotic drones intent on spreading their virus. At it's core, Eden is about a young woman trying to learn what it means to love and be human. 4 stars

Whisper: Eden's message seems to be that is our actions that really determine what we are made of and who we are.

Wire tip: Eden is available in paperback but the real deal is in the eBook. Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Amazon UK, and Smashwords carry the eBook of Eden for only $2.99 *Plus, for a limited time, the eBook is only 0.99¢ at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Whippersnappers: Mostly clean with only a few minor mentions to nudity and some descriptive hunting.

Word to the wise: I would recommend Eden by Keary Taylor to fans of The Host.

Review: The Girl in the Steel Corset

Whine: What I'm about to say may shock you but I think the prequel (The Strange Case of Finley Jayne) sort of ruined me for The Girl in the Steel Corset. Wild right? That has never happened to me before. You see I fell in love with the pace and fluidity of The Strange Case of Finley Jayne. So I immediately purchased The Girl in the Steel Corset. But when The Girl in the Steel Corset took her time developing, I got bored.

Wooed: While the pace wasn't for me, I wholeheartedly admit the detailed descriptions of the automatons and garments were exquisite. Kady Cross brings the romanticism and machines of steampunk to life. I have never enjoyed reading about machines this much. Plus, I loved the romantic tension between Finley's two equally sexy and intriguing suitors.

Word to the wise: Don't let my review sway you. Try this series.

Wrapping: While there is no denying the cover gown is gorgeous, it doesn't match the gown in the book.

Wholly: The Girl in the Steel Corset is a 3 star descriptive and unique steampunk journey with a serious fab dash of Jekyll & Hyde.

Wee-view: The Strange Case of Finley Jayne

2¢ Worth: When I grabbed this prequel freebie I was expecting something mildly interesting that would give me a little taste of The Girl in the Steel Corset. What I wasn't expecting was to really admire and cheer for Finley Jayne. Finley has some inexplicable superpowers that don't exactly fit into polite society. Powers she manages to keep well tucked under her skirt until someone is in danger. Then all bets are off and she can't help but turn into a fabulous, butt kicking, steampunk She-Ra in a corset. The Strange Case of Finley Jayne is swift, believable, mysterious, and engaging. So if you haven't grabbed this 5 star freebie, do so immediately!

Whippersnappers: While there are some dodgy no good fellows up to eerie business, it is pretty much clean.

Kiss of Night by Debbie Viguié is a Christian Fiction vampire novel. While I can definitely see how this quote might offend, for me it sort of rings true and I really think it helps set the tone of the novel.

So I will admit, I wasn't sure about this book when I won it over at Confessions of a Book Addict. But when the booked arrived today and I cracked it open to find these opening lines, I got sucked in. And now for another confession...I couldn't help thinking of 50 First Dates when I first read these lines.

2¢ Worth: The daring and inventive P.J. Hoover creates a blend I never would never have imagined = 50% dystopian + 50% Greek mythology! The result? A fresh, intense, dark, creepy, mysterious page-turner. Solstice is incredibly unique, gripping, and nearly impossible to put down. 5 stars

Whine: Just one! I figured out the secret before Piper and seriously wanted to urge her to catch up.

Whippersnappers: O my my my! This one is best suited for older teens (or adult fiction fans that occasionally dabble in YA) due the the continuous visits to a very vivid and hellish Greek underworld, underage drinking, steamy make-out scenes, nudity, and profanity.
